Sr. Technical Leader – Critical Power

Description:

In this position, the Senior Technical Leader will work closely with the Program Manager and other EPRI technical staff to manage and support a diverse range of challenging electric power and energy projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Manages projects without direct people management responsibilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives or problems where the relationships between cause and effect are difficult to establish and little or no precedence exists, and the use of creative imaginative thinking is required.
  • Influences project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work.
  • Provides input into configuration management and documentation for engineering projects.
  • Leads proposal efforts and new promotional work.
  • Maintains familiarity with the progress and problems in assigned technical areas.
  • Prepares proposals and project documentation. Prepares and delivers presentations.
  • Works independently on technical activities without direct supervision

Preferred Education, Skills, Certifications:

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in either Electrical Engineering or Physics.
  • 8-10 years of engineering experience or comparable work/educational experience.
  • Knowledge of AC and/or DC electric power systems and/or power electronics and related fields of study (power distribution, energy storage, power conditioning, emergency power, renewable energy, energy efficiency, thermal energy management, and power protection)
  • Understanding of the responsibilities associated with protecting information including trade secrets, confidential data, and proprietary information.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, allocate, and manage time and budget for assigned tasks

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience with research, development, and technology demonstration projects.
  • Experience with federal government contracting and business processes.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support work-related assignments at customer-designated locations.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a great interest to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to develop technical solutions to problems which require the use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Ability to work independently but knows when to ask for assistance and further direction
  • Strong hardware aptitude with proven skills in design, troubleshooting, and testing.
  • Strong desire to learn and explore areas outside academic training and skills; ability to be mentored by a senior staff member.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner with an ability to adapt to changes in work scope.
  • Strong interest in working in nontraditional power and energy applications.

To be eligible, candidates must have an active national security clearance or debriefed within the last 24 months. Minimum clearance is Top Secret (TS). TS with full scope polygraph is preferred. 

EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee's I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
