Pratt & Whitney’s Advanced Measurements Research and Development group in Middletown, Connecticut, is seeking a highly motivated Non-Intrusive Stress Measurement System (NSMS) Engineer responsible for developing state-of-the-art measurement technologies used to verify the structural integrity of gas turbine engines.

NSMS measurements are used to infer the vibratory responses of rotating turbo machinery. NSMS measures the time-of-arrival of individual blades and determines the blade’s vibratory amplitudes, frequencies, and phases.

This position provides challenging assignments with responsibilities that include:

  • Design and development of advanced signal processing algorithms
  • Software development
  • Perform uncertainty analysis, including error propagation, sensitivity analysis, and error budgeting
  • Perform complex measurement system analysis using advanced statistical analysis methods including Design for Variation and multivariable regression techniques, temporal analysis techniques, spectral analysis, and joint time-frequency analysis.

Ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of rotating vibration measurements, advanced signal processing and technical programming skills and have the ability to translate mathematical algorithms into software

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a BS in an Engineering or Physics with at least 10 years of experience with gas turbine engine test and measurement systems engineering
  • MS Degree or PhD requires 3-4 years of related NSMS engineering
  • US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Matlab, Labview, C/C++, TCL/TK
  • Structures Background
  • Experience working with the following disciplines; aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, physics and statistics

  • Must have a BS in an Engineering or Physics related discipline
  • Advanced Degree (MS, PhD) preferred
