Job Details

The Sr. Fixed Equipment Engineer, reporting directly to the Director of Mechanical Integrity, provides corporate level leadership, consultation, and technical expertise for fixed equipment to the Refinery Sites. The primary focus will be in support of continuous improvement for refineries through identification and company-wide implementation of industry best practices in areas of design, analysis, maintenance and repair, as well as reliability, and mechanical integrity programs and processes. Develop fixed equipment strategies to optimize the analysis, repair and replacement interval for pressure vessels, piping systems, and tanks through fitness for service programs and improved equipment design.

Responsibilities may include:

Interactively support the refining Fixed Equipment Network in all functional areas of the refinery fixed equipment discipline, including:

  • Steward the fixed equipment related Refining Engineering Practices, Refining Required Standards, Recommended Best Practices, and Guidelines
  • Providing technical support to the Refining Sites and Major and Mid-Cap Projects for pressure vessel and piping design and fabrication issues - support for pressure vessel mechanical design, piping design and pipe stress analysis, fabrication, and interpretations for ASME Code and REP design requirements
  • Cooperatively support the Fixed Equipment Engineers Sub-Network with other engineers to accomplish network and company goals with special emphasis in areas of Fixed Equipment Engineering such as Fitness for Service, Piping Flexibility, Vessel Stress Analysis and Risk Based Inspection
  • Providing technical leadership and assistance to Refineries in fixed equipment defect elimination, including Root Cause Failure Analysis as well as material upgrades and personnel training, project and turnaround planning and execution as appropriate
  • Development and stewardship of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for fixed equipment reliability and mechanical integrity
  • Supporting the coordination and guidance for fixed equipment analysis programs at the refineries including: piping stress analysis (e.g. CAESAR II), pressure vessel analysis programs (e.g., PVElite), bolted flange analysis (JADE), tank systems, etc.
  • Engaging in industry technical organizations (ASME / API) as appropriate to represent the company and to identify industry expertise regarding external proven practices, technology, codes, and best practices in reliability and mechanical integrity of fixed equipment
  • Supporting the Corporate QA/QC and Procurement programs with technical expertise in the pipe/valve/fitting commodity arena and verifying vendor and shop qualifications and purchasing agreements for fixed equipment

Requirements

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10 or more years of direct refinery experience
  • 10 or more years of direct maintenance / mechanical integrity experience in fixed equipment design and engineering analysis
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of ASME Section VIII Div 1&2, ASME B.31.3 and API Fixed Equipment Codes and Recommended Practices
  • 25% travel is required
  • Willing and able travel internationally, without restrictions

  • Code Design and Analysis programs – VCESage, PVElite, CAESAR II, K-Pipe, Compress, PCMS, CodeCalc, JADE, CrackWise
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of SAP for maintenance management
  • Strong networking and team building skills
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Ability and desire to share best practices across the organization
  • Is willing and able to positively influence others
  • Provide positive mentoring to less experienced engineers
