We are seeking an engineering professional with experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for our Aerodynamics, Systems and Test Group at UTAS Sensors and Integrated Systems (UTAS-SIS) located in Burnsville, MN. The Aerodynamics Engineer will support ongoing and new programs as it relates to aerodynamics and fluid mechanics. The ideal candidate will be expected to contribute technical expertise and leadership in both R&D and new business pursuit activities. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for aerodynamics analysis of UTAS-SIS products and assessing their performance in normal and adverse weather conditions. The candidate is also expected to provide consulting in the areas of aerodynamics and aero-thermal analysis to the engineering design teams within UTAS-SIS.

Exposure to and experience with aircraft systems, aircraft icing, flight testing and wind tunnel testing is preferred. While aptitude with Fluent is preferred, experience with a commercial CFD code and meshing tools is required. In addition, the applicant is expected to contribute to the development of new software analysis tools utilizing various coding environments being used within the group.

The Aerodynamics, Systems and Test Group exists as a central service group within Sensors and Integrated Systems. The selected candidate will have strong communication skills, thrive in a change-filled environment with multiple, ongoing projects, and work well as a member of a team. The ideal candidate will exhibit competencies in creativity, problem solving, action orientation, customer focus, drive for results and self-development. The candidate must exhibit skills in planning of engineering work and be able to move forward on projects without all of the relevant information in place. The candidate must also show learning agility in being able to comprehend new concepts and ideas quickly. All of the team’s analysis tools will be available in this role including CFD, a transonic aerodynamics research wind tunnel and a new state-of-the-art icing tunnel.
Qualifications 2+ years of aerospace industry related experience required. Education Qualified candidates will have at least two years of aerospace industry related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics. Preferred candidates will have a M.S. in an appropriate engineering discipline with a focus on CFD as part of their graduate research as well as a background in aircraft icing and/or aero-thermal analysis using CFD methods. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required.
