We are seeking a Software Systems Engineer

This position requires experience with the integration, test, and/or deployment phases of large scale software projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for sustainment of both integration/test and operational environments. The successful candidate has experience collaborating with suppliers, corporate services, and other domain experts in the implementation, integration, testing, and maintenance of software systems.

The role of a USNDS ground data processing software system engineer, specifically a System Integrator, includes responsibility for system level stewardship and integration of a highly complex software system. The Integrated Correlation and Display System (ICADS) receives, processes, correlates, and disseminates data from multiple US satellite systems for the identification of nuclear detonations from remote sensors. As a member of the ICADS Systems Integration team, a System Integrator is accountable for the software system test and integration environment as well as the implementation integrity both prior to and during delivery to the customer.

Required:



- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, electrical engineering, or relevant discipline plus up to two years of experience; or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or relevant discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Demonstrated experience in broad-based anomaly resolution within the context of a system-of-systems.

- Demonstrated experience with system level regression testing; to include resource planning, test execution, results analysis, and report generation.

- Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: Linux operating systems, Solaris operating systems, virtualization and data storage technologies, and network performance monitoring.

- Demonstrated ability to recognize and assess computer security vulnerabilities by applying standardized procedures.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and balance both short-term unplanned and long-term planned tasks simultaneously.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

- Some travel required.

Desired:

- Experience with the USNDS program domain

- Understanding of DSP satellite sensors and ground system processing.

- Experience within the DSP ground system processing domain.

- Experience in process-driven sustainment of large-scale, complex, geographically distributed systems.

- Experience in the sustainment of secure wide-area network solutions, including VLANs and ACLs.

- Experience in the sustainment of Linux-based or Solaris-based systems including the use of virtual machine and network storage technologies.

- Programming experience, including Ada, Python and Shell scripting.

- Experience with RMF processes including STIGs.

- Knowledge of Information Assurance technologies and their applications including security information and event management, access control systems, firewalls and intrusion prevention technologies.

- Working knowledge of certificate management.

- Active DOE Q clearance.

- Active SCI clearance.

- Experience with handling of classified hardware and media.

- Ability to maintain a SCI clearance, which may require a Polygraph test.



The NDS Sustainment Department is accountable for providing prompt diagnosis, analysis and assessment of critical technical issues associated with USNDS ground systems followed by responsive resolution - in line with Sandia's mission to help secure the nation against nuclear threat. As the Sandia first response team for the ICADS, GNT, and RDP components of the USNDS ground system portfolio, our diverse team ensures continuous system operation to meet or exceed mission-critical system requirements. Through the team's productive engagement with a multitude of external agencies that includes users, stakeholders, and customers, analysis and feedback fuel a healthy evolution of system maintenance, enhancements, and new capabilities. These stakeholder interactions, understanding of user experience and constructive feedback dovetail with the Mission Data Processing Systems team to extend a truly full lifecycle view of our delivered products.
