We are seeking an Early Career level, IT Software Systems Engineer to join our team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design, implement and test Java, C++ and/or Python software to address data science and analytics needs;
+ Work both as a team member and individually to translate customer and user needs into custom software solutions that are peer reviewed, tested, verified and integrated and ultimately deployed into operations;
+ Participate in scrum planning meetings, daily stand-ups, sprint and iteration demos and retrospectives;
+ Identify and implement solutions to software problems with our currently fielded systems.

Required:



+ Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant degree; or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant degree.
+ Experience in software development and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools by way of education or experience.

Desired:

+ Demonstrated high academic performance measured by cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2/4.0;
+ 3+ years of experience developing software in two or more of the following areas: web applications, user interfaces, databases, algorithms, scientific data visualizations, or modeling & simulation applications;
+ Experience with Agile/Scrum development;
+ Experience with development, deployment and sustainment of large complex technical software systems;
+ Domain knowledge in data science, machine learning, geospatial analytics, temporal/behavioral analytics, text analytics, or social analytics;
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment;
+ Active US DOE L-level clearance or equivalent;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.



The Special Analytic Initiatives department conducts research into computational analytic methods to secure high-consequence systems and high-value networks. The department also transitions our research, and other open research, to develop tools and techniques that leverage large-scale data and high-speed data streams for our customers? analytic needs.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
