Senior Technical Leader - Risk Safety Management
Charlotte, NC

The Position: 
The Senior Technical Leader with primary duties related to supporting research activities in the area of fire risk assessment and/or risk assessment of other external hazards such as flooding, high winds, and others.

Job Functions:
The primary job function is the definition and management of research projects in furtherance of the Risk and Safety Management (RSM) Strategic Research Plan. This includes providing technical leadership in relevant research areas. Along with that technical leadership are the need and ability to perform in-depth research, both individually and collaboratively. More specifically, the functions will include the following:
    • Working with sponsors (e.g., utility, regulatory, research, government, academic, and consultant personnel) in a collaborative environment to identify research needs and complete projects 
    • Facilitating and participating in direct interaction with sponsors on a spectrum of technical issues, with an initial focus on fire risk analysis and eventually all areas of nuclear risk analysis
    • Managing projects and contractors to perform within schedule and budget constraints 
    • Providing consultation and resolving issues with sponsors 
    • Developing effective technical research proposals that include costs and schedule 
    • Performing and publishing technical analysis and research in the form of technical reports, presentations, academic papers, and journal articles

The Ideal Candidate: 
    • Direct nuclear plant or utility service provider experience 
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
    • Demonstrated project management experience 
    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with diverse personnel and to resolve conflicts 

Education Level and Years of Experience:
    • BS degree in engineering or a physical science field or equivalent experience plus at least 8 years of relevant experience
    • Experience in performance and application of PRA: 8 years (required)

This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to furthering the development and improvement of practical methods for performing PRA for fire and/or external hazards in a challenging and stimulating environment, and to be a part of leadership within the world-wide nuclear community in implementing this technology.
