As a result of growth we are looking to add a Senior Stress Engineer to our highly skilled Landing Gear New Product Design & Development team at our Landing Gear facility in Independence, OH.

Primary Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership for all stress related tasks of the project(s) assigned while working with the following:
· Project Head or Stress Lead to ensure that stress tasks are properly managed to achieve project delivery in accordance with project plans
· Integrated Product Team (IPT) to ensure Engineering integration into overall program requirements
· Divisional Engineering teams to ensure that engineering integrity is achieved, engineering procedures are complied, lessons learned are addressed and a robust trouble-free product is developed

Executes stress activities including:
· Customer / Suppliers:
§ Liaise with customer/Suppliers for all stress related issues
§ Foster strong customer relationships through accountability, transparency and credibility
· Integration / Planning:
§ Responsible and accountable for all stress tasks and its completion dates
§ Sets stress team priorities and objectives with a strong drive to meet expectations
§ Communicates progress and roadblocks with the Integrated Product Team (IPT), project head and stress lead
§ Assure that all UPI process are followed and documented within the “Standard Work Tool”
· Stress Tasks
§ Perform strength, stability, residual strength, fatigue, and fracture analyses of detail design of landing gear and systems structural components using both computer modeling and classical analysis methods
§ Construct and analyze finite element structural models
§ Prepare detailed stress reports
§ Provide technical guidance to other stress engineers
§ Review drawings/models with other company disciplines and provide structures input
§ Review design changes with other company disciplines and provide structures input
§ Prepare test plans by determining the requirements for laboratory and full-scale testing
§ Review test results and correlate with analytical models
§ Evaluate test results that may impact the design or require a design improvement
§ Analyze structural repairs for landing gear and systems structural components
§ May be assigned a work package or assigned to small program to act as the functional lead
§ Perform research in such fields as failure analysis, finite elements, and methods of stress analysis, thermal effects, fatigue, and fracture mechanics.
§ Utilize GLPDS tools to facilitate execution for stress related tasks
§ Present stress aspects at internal and external design reviews to ensure the design meets requirements and expectations
· Problem Resolution
§ Performs Engineering investigations into failures and participates in Root Cause and Corrective Action
§ Ensure timely and satisfactory resolution of problems
· Compliance
§ Ensures compliance to UTAS-LS engineering methodologies by providing direction/guidance to the stress team.
§ Maintains compliance to ITAR and regulatory requirements

· Occasional travel between customer/suppliers and UTAS locations
· Long term assignments may be required during the joint definition phases for new programs
· Support development of Landing Gear cultural initiatives through the use of UTAS 4-gear philosophy
· Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required and a minimum of 8 years of experience in aircraft stress analysis
  • Strong understanding of external loads, load paths, internal loads and free body diagrams
  • Demonstrated ability developing internal loads
  • Demonstrated ability developing formal certification stress reports
  • Demonstrated ability performing classical static and fatigue stress analysis
  • Prior use of PDM (Smarteam, MatrixOne, Teamcenter) system
  • Demonstrated use of Catia V5
  • Good understanding of computing tools and programs including the use of Microsoft Office and FE analysis tools such as PATRAN, NASTRAN, ANSYS and ABAQUS
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Must be able to verify U.S. Person status as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have the following combination of education and experience:
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in Landing Gear design and development
  • Experience in new product development of transport and/or military type aircraft components and assemblies
  • Strong understanding of external loads, load paths, internal loads and free body diagrams
  • Skilled in ABAQUS, MathCAD, Excel VBA
  • Demonstrated experience in leading projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Prior use of Smarteam and MatrixOne
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Comfortable in dealing with and developing strong working relationships with internal and external customers






Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering plus a minimum of 8 years of experience in aircraft stress analysis
