The Combustion Science Group at UTRC invites qualified candidates to for an experimental research position in multi-physics and reacting flow areas. UTRC will provide ample opportunity to work on the science and engineering aspects related to problems encountered in practical devices and applications such as gas turbine combustors, fire suppression systems, and material flammability.

The successful candidate must demonstrate;
  • A thorough understanding of experimental methods and analysis techniques for unsteady, multi-phase reacting flows.
  • An in-depth understanding of advanced experimental diagnostics and optical-based or laser measurement techniques such as laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) or planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) as examples.
  • A clear understanding of the fundamental physics for combustion and/or multiphase, reacting flows.
  • The potential to initiate, lead, and execute funding opportunities in both internal and external R&D.

Candidates are expected to develop and employ innovative approaches for measurements in reacting flow environments and show a broad understanding of topics related to combustion or fire dynamics, environmental issues, spray atomization, chemical kinetics, and gas-phase or particulate emissions. An understanding of material flammability or high-temperature oxidation of metals or condensed-phase fuels would also be highly desirable.
Qualifications Ability to work independently and work with limited direction to accomplish project goals.
Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
Excellent communication skills and able to provide timely detailed reports, presentations and technical papers for archival journal publication.
Proficiency in Matlab, LabView and/or image processing techniques will be an added plus.
Education Ph.D. in aerospace, chemical, mechanical engineering or material sciences with up to 2 years of work experience in industry.
