Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company (NYSE:UTX), is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units.

Frederick Rentschler founded Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1925. Our first aircraft engine transformed the aviation industry. It was the 410-horsepower, aircooled Wasp, which delivered unprecedented performance and reliability for the time. We have been leading change ever since.

Today, Pratt & Whitney develops game-changing technologies for the future, such as the PurePower® PW1000G engine, with patented Geared Turbofan engine technology. The company's worldwide large commercial engine maintenance, repair and overhaul network provides innovative services that add value and delight customers around the globe.

Pratt & Whitney's large commercial engines power more than 25 percent of the world's mainline passenger fleet. The company continues to develop new engines and work with its partners in International Aero Engines and the Engine Alliance to meet airline customers' future needs.

The Role

Pratt & Whitney's Commercial Engines, Engine Services organization is seeking a senior fleet powerplant engineer to be responsible for the management of gas turbine engine overhauls performed on customer aircraft fleets. The senior fleet powerplant engineer will support the technical management of Fleet Hour Agreement (FHA), Fleet Management Program (FMP) and Materials Management Program (MMP) maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contracts in order to minimize expenditures and improve engine maintenance interval/reliability.

The selected candidate for this position will engage in the following activities:

In partnership with fleet technical managers and engine services network facilities, develop a cross-functional team to ensure smooth operational execution, continuous improvement in shop visit cost management and engine time-on-wing.

Establish and effectively communicate engine shop visit requirements.

Coordinate with engine centers to ensure effective implementation of work scope specifications, configuration requirements and specific engine shop maintenance instructions.

Work with fleet technical managers, identify and manage emerging issues as well as assess and mitigate technical risks to minimize maintenance interval and cost impacts through:

  • Maintenance planning including shop visit workscopes.

  • Invoice deconstruction/trending/findingsassessment – identification of cost drivers.
  • Business case development – impact to financials.
  • Service bulletin technical/business assessment.
  • Shop visit technical support in order to limit workscope expansion.
  • Resolution of technical or business questions/issues the engine center may have on specific engine or program requirements.
