We have an immediate opening for a Senior Controls Design Engineer in Troy, OH.

Role:
The Control Systems Design & Verification group at UTAS – Landing Systems is seeking a candidate to provide expertise in controls design for aircraft landing systems (e.g. braking, steering, and extend / retract systems). The candidate must be able to independently execute the core tasks of control system architecture trade studies, control requirements development, control design for supervisory and regulatory functionality, validation of dynamic system models, and the validation and verification of control designs. Regular interactions with Project Engineering, Component Design, Software Design, Electrical Design, Software Quality and Reliability are required. In addition, the candidate will be expected to support technical interactions with the customers and suppliers on a regular basis.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate level degree in Mechanical, Control Systems, or Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in controls development and will have extensive experience in industrial or R&D environments that involve the development of advanced control methodologies for insertion into product development processes. The candidate would be familiar with analytical, model based control systems development including linear and nonlinear control design and computational methods for control simulation and verification including methods from robust controls and design (e.g. Six Sigma methods) and HiL, SiL and real time verification environments and test protocols. Experience across the product development process for controls is required. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink, Matrix X, Modelica/Dymola or similar modeling and simulation environments and physics based modeling practices. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Writing skills to make technical reports and presentations concise and understandable to a wide audience are required. The duties and responsibilities of this position are:

• Modeling, Analysis, Simulation, and Control system design for aircraft braking systems;
• Project responsibility for the entire control system from proposal phase to entry into service phase;
• Develop and coach others in controls development;
• Lead small technical development teams (2-3 engineers);
• Write technical reports, lead or actively participate in design reviews, communicate progress and plans, develop project schedules & cost estimates, attend team meetings, and adhere to schedule milestones;
• Comply with UTC EH&S and Ethics policies, training, and practices.



Qualifications Required:
  • 5+ years’ experience in Control System modeling and design
  • Experience across the product development process for controls

Preferred:
  • PhD degree in Control Systems
  • Experience with electric and hydraulic brake control algorithm development.
  • DO331 (Model Based Design and Verification) supplement and DO178C and Simulink automatic code generation
  • Experience in aerospace or automotive industries



Must be able to verify U.S. Person Status as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

Education

BA/BS degree in Engineering or Science from four year college or university required
