The Security Architect function is a technical architecture position in Information Technology.  The position reports to the Director of IT Architecture and is part of a team responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Covanta information assets. This person will be involved in a mix of both Network Security and Applications Security and will be involved in security requirements; preparing security standards & procedures, and planning, implementing, and testing security systems.

Ideal candidate will have a successful background in networking and security technologies and architectures, proven implementation and operational experience, demonstrated ability to manager external service providers and experience working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on speed-to-value and innovation.  

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Architect security and network systems to protect corporate data against internal/external attack, unauthorized disclosure, accidental or intentional loss of data, or unauthorized modification.
  • Select, oversee implementation, and monitor network, host, and cloud security technologies deployed globally.
  • Develops technology roadmaps and lifecycles for all security solutions and systems
  • Define security controls for mobile device, PC, server, network, and other I/S platforms.
  • Champion security best practices throughout the I/S organization and the end user community. Analyze, assess, and re-mediate security vulnerabilities within corporate information systems.
  • Manage security incidents and events to protect corporate IT assets, including intellectual property, personal information, regulated data, and the company's reputation.
  • Perform security reviews for new or upgraded applications, new vendors, I/S projects, SAAS solutions, and IAAS solutions.
  • Provide gap analysis based on criteria from risk assessments to develop the organization’s I/S security roadmap.
  • Monitor the external threat environment for emerging threats, and advise relevant stakeholders on the appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Perform forensic security audits in response to viruses, malware, and other cyber threats.
  • Assist in the development of security policies and procedures.
  • Ensure corporate compliance with applicable laws relative to information systems security.
  • Manage service provider and vendor relationships
  • Manage security product and services portfolio including contract renewals
  • Maintains strong communications with and report on status of all security initiatives to IT leadership

 


  • Technical Proficiency – Hands on experience or working knowledge of most of the following security functions: antivirus software/platforms, URL filtering, malware detection/blocking/removal, intrusion detection/prevention systems, patch management, Windows domain security, PKI infrastructure, firewalls, encryption, incident response, penetration testing, and digital forensics.
  • Analytical Abilities - Analytical and information gathering skills allow for effective assessment of business risks and exposures. Problem-solving skills including working collaboratively with peer technical teams to resolve cross-platform problems or to develop security risk solutions.
  • Business Knowledge - - Understands the security risks associated to 1 or more key business functions and possible means of exposures that could jeopardize each area.
  • Independence - Works independently with only general direction; appropriately keeps management informed of relevant issues.
  • Administration - Handles some routine daily administrative tasks associated with data security and specific project assignments including creating documentation and risk assessments.
  • Solid understanding of security/access control, scalability, high availability, and concurrency patterns
  • Competent in building collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Competent in new technology evaluation and should be able to support technical change management
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible positions in cyber security & networking
  • Experience working across both IT and business organizations
  • Exceptional organization skills with the ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment 

Education:

  • B.S. (Business, Computer Science, Engineering Management) or equivalent work experience/certifications in related discipline 

Professional Skills:

  • Experience building technology plans and roadmaps
  • Experience designing, integrating, and managing complex security solutions
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills. Communications are complete & understandable to target audience. Demonstrates effective listening skills.
  • University degree in fields related to computer science or engineering
  • Working knowledge of the ITIL framework and Incident Management best practices
  • Working knowledge of SDLC processes and project management best practices
