The Seating Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall direction and administrationofmultiple disciplines or sites in Engineering disciplines such as Design, Product, Helicopter, Ejection Seat/HMTF Engineering or Technical Services. This Manager provides leadership, guidance, and direction to the assigned Engineering Team members in Colorado Springs, Hurricane Mesa UT Test facility HMTF, Peshtigo, WI, and the India Design Center (IDC)Team in support of development projects. This person will interface directly with internal and external customers in support of new product development activities. Additionally, this person supports the technical aspects of new business capture activities and Project Management. This person also has responsibility for configuration control and engineering shared services.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all engineering functions for multiple disciplines or sites in support of the Military and Seating strategic goals.
  • Responsible for establishing a vision for the engineering personnel, products, and technology and execution to the strategy.
  • Responsible and accountable for successful execution of new product design and implementation per the UTAS New Product Introduction process.
  • Responsible for integration between the Colorado Springs, Peshtigo, and IDC Seating Teams to ensure improvements in effectiveness and efficiencies are realized.
  • Responsible for integration between the COS and Peshtigo Seating teams in alignment with the seating product strategy.
  • Responsible for ensuring entry into service and products are effectively supported in the field.
  • Focuses on managerial concerns of projects such as cost, weight, completion date, and resource allocation. Provides expert resolution of issues and monitors integration of work.
  • Reviews and approves plans for product design and Seating Engineering budget spend.
  • Drives continuous improvement for development engineering processes. Uses ACE tools to improve the department and streamline department procedures.
  • Drives timely resolution of product issues, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures the use of UTAS Lean Product Development tools in new product development.
  • Reviews technical concepts of projects to ensure customer, regulatory, assembly, and manufacturing requirements are met.
  • Personally participates in solving particularly difficult technical problems.
  • Handles personnel actions including recruitment, performance reviews, salary recommendations, employee relations and coordination of training and development.
  • Responsible for developing talent and teams’ expertise.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of key product line strategies and tactical action plans.
  • Adheres to all UTAS rules and codes of conduct.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications At least 10 years working in a design engineering position requiring a high level of technical aptitude.
7 years’ experience in a technical managerial role in the aerospace industry.
At least 2 years supervisory experience.
Knowledge of FAA and other airworthiness regulatory requirements.
US Citizenship or Green Card required.


Lean/Six Sigma experience
Experience working with off-shore design teams
Knowledge of NX and Teamcenter
Knowledge of SAP

Education BA/BS degree w/10+ years’ experience in related engineering field
MA/MS degree w/7+ years’ experience in related engineering field
PhD degree w/4+ years’ experience in related engineering field
