The Risk and Insurance team supports the National Grid businesses by identifying insurable risks and managing them through the cost effective provision of insurance solutions for National Grid businesses worldwide. The successful candidate will liaise with key business stakeholders and insurance markets to provide insurance and risk management advice; lead on specific lines of insurance cover and provide support to the rest of the team on other policies.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):


Support the team and in some cases will lead in the assessment, review and recommendation of insurance requirements for designated businesses and projects across National Grid including new project developments. Implement the approved insurance strategy to ensure appropriate protection of National Grid’s assets, insurable liabilities and growth opportunities.



Communicate the group insurance strategy to designated businesses, key stakeholders and generally across National Grid.



Collate, analyse and submit underwriting information to insurers and reinsurers annually (and as and when required) to ensure all material matters are disclosed and insurances are efficiently placed. For auditable policies, lead audit at end of policy period.



Maintain up to date knowledge of insurance market influences on designated lines of insurance coverage to ensure National Grid benefits or is protected from any market developments accordingly.

Advise the business and key stakeholders in the context of entering into commercial contracts on issues that relate to insurance.

Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience Required:
Experience Required: Three to five years of relevant experience within the insurance and risk management profession gained from in-house positions, underwriting or broking. Experienced in reviewing and negotiating insurance terms and conditions including conducting policy wording reviews. Experience in reviewing and negotiating vendor contractual insurance terms and conditions Experienced in leading and placing insurance policies in the US or global insurance market. Qualifications: Desirable: Bachelor Degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Business or Finance; ARM / CPCU qualified (or progression) Behavioural Competencies / Leadership Qualities: Creates the future - anticipating the future needs of the business and customers; responsive to external influences. Builds relationships - proven ability to collaborate within National Grid and across the insurance industry. Engage stakeholders. Technical / Role Specific Competencies: Ability to manage diverse sources of information and data, draw conclusions and produce insurance analysis, reports, presentations and strategies. A clear understanding of the global insurance and reinsurance market (preferably in the power or energy sectors); A sound knowledge of all of the usual lines of coverage purchased by a corporation of National Grid’s size and nature; with a detailed understanding in some of these classes. Knowledge of the group captive insurance companies and their operation Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team. Main Interfaces: Risk and insurance team within National Grid plc, including the captive insurance companies and US claims teams Designated group businesses and key stakeholders External brokers and underwriters Legal Finance Procurement Job Dimensions: Position reports to the Director of US Risk & Insurance. No direct reports or budget, but will be a member of a small team with responsibility for procuring circa $5bn of insurance capacity each year and managing the overall insurance spend of $40 million each year in the US and circa $100m globally.
