We are seeking a researcher to perform modeling and measurement research in the area of flow induced structural acoustics for a wide range of possible applications, including marine vehicles, aviation, and renewable and non-renewable energy production

    What YOU Will Do
    You will: Using advanced instrumentation, prepare and conduct experiments at ARL as well as various off-site government testing facilities; identify and perform appropriate numerical and analytical modeling; write and submit proposals for funded research; cultivate relationships with existing and potential government and industry sponsors; collaborate with other research and academic faculty at Penn State; and document research activities in technical reports and peer reviewed publications

    What YOU Need to be Successful
    Non-tenure faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Minimum requirements include a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Acoustics plus three years of related work experience

    Preferred experience:
  • Knowledge of vibration measurements, modal analysis techniques, finite element, and boundary element analysis
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and data acquisition system development
  • Proficiency in programming within the MATLAB environment and in a compiled language such as C/C++ or FORTRAN
  • Familiarity with government research programs and the proposal submission process

    Required experience/skills:
  • Expertise in flow excitation mechanisms, such as gust response and turbulent boundary layer excitation, and the relation of these forces to vibration and radiated sound
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and meet project schedule requirements
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Occasional domestic and international travel will be required to support testing

    You will be subject to a government security investigation and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment
