Job ID: 658742
Company: Sandia National Laboratories
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Job Title:RD Electrical/Electronics Engineer (Entry/Mid-Career)

:

The Advanced Fuzing Technology Department (02627) has an opening for a motivated Electrical/Electronics Engineer who is interested in joining high performance technical teams in the research, design, development, qualification, and delivery of highly specialized and novel electronic concepts, components and subsystems for national security applications. Projects are varied, but currently include research and design fuzing and firing systems for weapon applications, mostly for the Department of Defense. These components must be designed to meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, enable integration and interfacing to complex host systems, and meet stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments. The Electrical/Electronics Engineer will participate in the design, analysis, procurement, assembly, testing and integration of this hardware. To perform these tasks, the Electrical Engineer must have skills in the areas of electronic design, circuit modeling, models-based design, physical analysis, and bench-top checkout testing. Because devices designed in 2627 are cross-disciplinary, the electrical engineer will be required to interact with mechanical, optical, quality, manufacturing and system engineers to perform design tasks. It is expected that the engineer will increase their level of responsibility and ownership with experience.

Required:

1) Advanced degree in electrical or computer engineering with a specialization at the graduate level in one or more of the skills listed above (electronics design including power electronics, analog instrumentation, embedded design and programming, system analysis and modeling, digital FPGA design).

2) Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline.

3) Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Desired:

1) Experience in one or more of the following:

a) high voltage pulse discharge;

b) fuzing design;

c) firing set design;

d) board-level and/or component level circuit design;

e) designing for safety critical applications;

f) data processing and analysis;

g) development of embedded hardware and software systems;

h) application of quality and design processes, i.e. CMMI

2) Familiarity with the following:

a) flight hardware requirements and qualification;

b) modeling and analysis tools and methodologies;

c) electronics and software testing/debugging;

d) electrical schematics;

e) satellite or aerospace programs;

3) Ability to design digital and/or analog circuitry (i.e. VHDL, ASIC, mixed signal)

4) Demonstrated ability to work across a wide variety of disciplines to integrate designs into a complete system (software, hardware, mechanical, etc)

5) Ability to work within projects that require adherence to formal engineering design standards, modeling and requirements;

6) Familiarity defining project scope and eliciting system requirements, and interacting with and identifying the needs of various system stakeholders;

7) Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

8) Demonstrated ability to team well with others

9) Active DOE security clearance

The Advanced Fuzing Technology department provides the technical expertise in the research, development, and design of highly specialized firing systems including fuzes and ignition devices. Through our novel designs, we provide advanced fuzing and firing solutions to meet the high reliability, safety and performance requirements for conventional and nuclear weapons applications. Our components and subsystems provide flexible options for integration with complex host systems. We study cutting-edge components, tools and techniques to keep Sandia at the forefront of firing system technologies.
