Job Summary



Under staff level oversight, provides technical support associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health hazards related to ionizing radiation, radioactive material, and radiation generating devices\. Conducts and documents radiological surveys, prescribes radiological controls for various radiological activities, and monitors radiological work\.



Primary Job Duties



Under staff level oversight: Provides technical support associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health hazards related to areas such as ionizing radiation, radioactive material, and radiation generating devices\. Conducts tests and field investigations to support environmental, engineering, scientific, and mission support personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling radiation hazards\. Conducts and documents radiological surveys, prescribes radiological controls for various radiological activities, and monitors radiological work\. Routinely interfaces directly with radiological workers of various disciplines and backgrounds throughout laboratories and field sites\. Responds to onsite radiological incidents and emergencies, and/or offsite in support of Department of Energy requests\. Utilizes wide variety of radiation detection and measuring instrumentation\. Monitors stay times for workers in High Radiation Areas\. Performs radiological surveys of personnel, personal items and equipment leaving radiological Areas\. Maintains radiological control technologist qualifications\. Performs radiological air monitoring\.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Demonstrated knowledge in the field of health physics or related fields, such as mathematics, physics, nuclear engineering, biology, or chemistry\. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with radiation protection and monitoring\. Knowledge of common and unique work hazards in radiological facilities\. Knowledge and ability to apply requirements specified in 10CFR835 or 10CFR20\. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing\. Skill with operating as a member of a team with other RCTs, engineers, scientists, and technologists in mission and mission support areas\. Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications\. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs\. of monitoring and associated equipment on a daily basis Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, confined spaces, and elevated surfaces\. Ability to work around potential industrial hazards such as chemical, electrical, mechanical, biological, laser, noise, and ergonomic\. Ability to pass routine testing of DOE Core qualifications material with a grade of 80% or higher\. The ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position while wearing respiratory protection\. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to radiation protection\.



Required:



+ High School Diploma

+ Three years experience as a Senior RCT

+ A valid Drivers License and capable of operating a government vehicle

+ This position will require frequent travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico during the first year of hire\.



Desired:



+ ANSI 3\.1 Qualifications

+ Implementation of 10CFR835 or 10CFR20

+ 5\-10 years experience

+ NRRPT registered

+ AS or BS in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics field \(STEM\)

+ Current HAZWOPER



Department Description:



The Department provides Occupational Health and Safety Engineering support services to the SNL/CA site and personnel\. Support includes: radiation protection, industrial hygiene, chemical management, safety engineering and ergonomics\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
