We are seeking a Research & Development Laboratory Support Technologist to work as part of a team which builds, characterizes, fields, and maintains Z diagnostic instruments used to record x\-ray, imaging, or neutron and particle diagnostics\. In this role, you will be part of a multi\-disciplinary team of Technologists, Engineers and Scientists working in a fast\-paced environment to support both work horse diagnostics and developmental efforts\. There is a strong focus on data quality and scientific understanding, with an emphasis on implementing technology in novel ways to push boundaries\. In addition to Light Labs, the work areas consist the Z Pulsed Power machine which is a 100 ft\. diameter, 20 ft\. tall tank which includes beryllium and radiological contamination areas and confined space\. Wearing of Tyvek suits and a respirator, for certain operations, and other Personal Protective Equipment \(PPE\), is required\.



Required:



+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ A minimum of five years of experience working in a testing or research and development environment

+ Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance



Desired:



+ Experience working with x\-ray or neutron diagnostics

+ Experience loading, assembling, and performing quality assurance on scientific equipment

+ Experience working in a faced paced work environment

+ Attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills

+ Demonstrated ability working in a team environment with engineers, scientists, and other technologists

+ Associates degree in a STEM discipline



Department Description:



The Radiation and Fusion Diagnostics Department \(1676\) researches, develops and fields state\-of\-the\-art diagnostic systems for measuring conditions created in high energy density science experiments on the Z Machine\. The department is composed of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and technologists that work together in a collaborative environment to develop and field temporally\-, spatially\-, and/or spectrally\-resolving diagnostics with an emphasis on instruments that measure X\-ray and Neutron emission\. These measurements can have nanosecond to 100 picosecond time scales and tens of microns of spatial resolution\. The departments activities include fielding of activation samples for measuring neutron yield, neutron time\-of\-flight for inferring ion temperature in fusion plasmas, X\-ray fluence measurements to characterize X\-ray outputs, and soft and warm X\-ray imaging and spectroscopy to characterize source performance\. In addition, calibration and characterization of detector and critical diagnostic component \(e\.g\., crystal, filter, slit, pinhole, and PMT\) responses and pursuing new diagnostic development such as neutron imaging, fusion burn history, and high\-resolution time\-gated X\-ray imaging is also core to the departments mission\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
