The Air Delivered Weapon Systems Tester Development Department and the Ballistic Missile tester development department are responsible for the design, development, qualification and deployment of complex system testers and test equipment in support of the Nuclear Weapons Complex. Specifically, these testers and test systems acquire and deliver data to the Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Surveillance Program. Our teams employ innovative and leading-edge technologies in the design and development of these testers.

On any given day and a member of the tester development team you could be asked to:

+ Participate in the development of system or subsystem level requirements for testers
+ Conduct technical tradeoff analyses to inform requirements and technical decisions
+ Work with exiting requirements management tools in the development and generation of integrated requirements documentation to meet tester needs and customer deliverables
+ Participatecontribute on a high performing team in the development of conceptual test systems
+ Interface with design engineers, other systems engineers, and subject matter experts in the performance of design duties
+ Incorporate new requirements management and tracking tools and approaches into our ever improving design processes
+ Participate in the development and implementation of new systems engineering process for the departments
+ Learn about the United States Nuclear Weapons complex and the role of Sandia National Laboratories
+ Be called upon to peer review other design efforts and concepts within the Labs


99. Bachelor?s and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a STEM discipline (systems engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent technical discipline);
99. Working knowledge of systems engineering and requirements management obtained through either academic or professional experience;
99. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.


99. Degree in systems engineering or equivalent experience the use and application of systems engineering principles throughout the full systems engineering life cycle;
99. Experience in the development of SMART requirements including development of derived requirements;
99. Experience in the functional decomposition of requirements and allocation to subsystems and modules;
99. Experience with requirements management software tools (DOORs, TeamCenter, etc);
99. Experience in the design, development, and qualification of complex testers and test systems;
99. Experience and/or education in the design, development and qualification of pressure vessels and/or explosive containment structures;
99. Experience with component failure analysis (FMEA. Fishbone, etc);
99. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
99. Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines;
99. Experience working with the National Security Campus (Formerly Kansas City Plant) in delivering War Reserve quality hardware;
99. Knowledge of the implementation of nuclear safety architectures;
99. Active DOE Q-Level security clearance.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
