We are seeking a R&D S&E, Systems Engineer who will support the development of a safe process for Nuclear Explosive Operations at the Pantex Plant

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Identify and mitigate mechanical, electrical (in particular electrostatic discharge or ESD), and other hazardous forms of energy
+ Create and document technical justifications and rationale
+ Identify the safe operating environment for hazardous components
+ Develop technical subject matter expertise and working closely with peers at Sandia, Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Labs

This position requires regular travel to Pantex (TX), LANL (NM) and LLNL (CA)


+ Master?s or PhD in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field
+ 5 years system engineering experience with complex systems

The primary mission of the Weapon Analysis Department is to provide Sandia executive management, system and component designers, independent assessors, and other customers with performance, risk, and safety analyses using state-of-the-art model-based tools, test data, and expert knowledge. Our results help to assure the safety of nuclear weapons during assembly & disassembly operations, transportation activities, and other potential planned and accident environments. An intimate knowledge of nuclear weapon safety and a science-based approach involving analysis, modeling/simulation and experimental data provide the technical basis for meeting the needs of our customers.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
