We are seeking a R&D S&E, Systems Research and Analysis

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Plan, conceive, conduct, or manage research and development for Sandia's customers and sponsors\.

+ Formally define problem to be solved and formulates solution requirements, working with decision\-maker\(s\) to refine solution space

+ Use physical and computational simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of development\.

+ Undertake systematic investigation, analysis or experimentation to discover or revise knowledge of system phenomena, and discovers new approaches to optimizing system performance\.

This position requires some travel


+ Bachelors AND masters degree in relevant STEM discipline \(such as engineering, science, math, operations research, or statistics\) plus two or more years relevant experience; or bachelor's AND doctorate in relevant STEM discipline \(such as engineering, science, math, operations research, or statistics\)

+ Knowledge of the nuclear weapons program \(Sandia internal and/or external\), the stockpile, and/or the nuclear security enterprise\.

+ Demonstrated Systems Analysis experience: problem identification and definition, independent research, critical thinking, the ability to deal with ambiguity, and distillation of data and facts\.

+ Experience in preparation and delivery of oral and written technical reports\.


+ Communication skills: A demonstrated talent in preparing and delivering succinct, informative presentations; an ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel; ability to build effective business relationships by anticipating, understanding, and reacting to customer needs\.

+ Experience: A diverse set of professional/personal experiences and a broad perspective\. Ability and desire to come up to speed quickly in new areas and an enthusiasm for learning about areas outside one's particular expertise\.

+ Work approach: Teamwork, flexibility, and openness to many different viewpoints; discretion with highly sensitive information \(both classified and unclassified\); the ability to effectively handle controversial topics; and an ability to form and exercise networks that transcend structural boundaries\.

+ Active US Department of Energy Q Clearance\.

Department Description:

The Systems Analysis Group 150 has five departments that work closely together to shape national security decisions by generating insight through objective systems analyses and research for decisions on nuclear weapons and other national security issues\. The Group develops and applies a discipline of systems analysis that is independent, data driven, anticipatory, diverse in thought and expertise, and informed by Sandias technical depth and breadth; often working in concert with partners inside and outside the Laboratory\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.
