The department is searching for an energetic, high performing R&D S&E Systems Engineer to join the Surveillance team and partner with multiple SNL organizations as well as NNSA, LANL, LLNL, KCP \(NSC\), DOD, and the DOD contractors in supporting the surveillance activities for the W78 and W87 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile \(ICBM\) Laboratory test Programs\. This opening provides an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated staff member with a scientific or engineering background to make very distinctive and significant contributions to Sandia and the Nuclear Weapons Program\. The main responsibilities of this System Evaluation Engineering \(SEE\) position is to manage and direct the W78 and W87 Laboratory Testing and to analyze and disseminate the data from the tests\. The successful candidate will become intimately familiar with the detailed function of the W78 and W87 weapon systems and will become a Subject Matter Expert on the data taken during testing\. Other responsibilities include coordination of the test schedule, oversight of disassembly and inspection processes, build of the test beds, and managing \(Chairing\) Significant Finding Investigations \(SFIs\) and teaming to address Tester System Investigations \(TSIs\) that result from anomalies encountered during testing\. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn the job from the existing ICBM Lab SEE, who will continue to be a SEE in the department\. The successful candidate can expect to be on travel about 8 to 12 times a year\.


+ Bachelors degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics \(STEM\) discipline\.

+ Advanced degree in a STEM discipline or a minimum of 4 years relevant experience\.

+ Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.


+ Demonstrated strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills to support interactions with multiple agencies and levels of management\.

+ An advanced technical degree\.

+ Experience with Sandia corporate processes and the Sandia engineering infrastructure\.

+ Experience with nuclear weapon component or system design, development, production, surveillance, nuclear safety, or assessment\.

+ Experience with surveillance program \(flight test, system laboratory test, component evaluations, and/or material evaluations\)\.

+ Desire to analyze weapon data and develop improvements to the test

+ Ability to get along with others and to develop trusting, productive working relationships\.

+ Demonstrated effective time\-management skills\.

+ A willingness to lead technical investigations\.

+ Active DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.

Department Description:

The Ballistic Missile Weapons Integrated Stockpile Evaluation \(ISE\) department is responsible for the development and execution of the Stockpile Evaluation Program \(SEP\) for intercontinental ballistic missiles \(ICBMs\) and submarine launched ballistic missiles \(SLBMs\)\. Specifically, System Evaluation Engineers \(SEEs\) in the Department manage the Stockpile Laboratory and Flight Test activities for the W76, W76\-1, W78, W87, W88, and UK Stockpile Warheads and develop the Surveillance programs for the W88 ALT and AFA\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
