We are seeking a R&D Systems Engineer

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Lead systems engineering efforts related to requirements management, system testing, and test data analysis\. The primary focus of this position is on space vehicle interfaces, both satellite\-to\-satellite and satellite\-to\-ground system\. The successful candidate will support system\-level performance characterization, requirements verification, and system performance reporting through engineering and test activities\. Close coordination with internal and external stakeholders is necessary\.


+ Bachelor's and Master's degree in an engineering, math, or science field plus 2 or more years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree in an engineering, math, or science field plus 8 or more years of relevant experience;

+ Experience performing systems engineering and technical analysis;

+ Experience with generating system requirements, interface definitions, verification and validation activities, and other project documentation;

+ Experience with test planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting;

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance\.


+ Experience with large, multi\-organizational, multi\-discipline projects with emphasis on satellite or other aerospace systems;

+ Experience with US Air Force satellite programs;

+ Experience in aerospace design, development, production, and operations;

+ Experience in design development, production, and operation of satellite ground systems;

+ Experience with satellite communication systems \(signal\-in\-space, encoding, encryption\);

+ Familiarity with USNDS, NDS payloads, and NDS ground systems;

+ Experience with requirements management tools, such as DOORS;

+ Proficient in MS Office tools;

+ Proficient with scripting and data analysis using Python or similar programming tools;

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills;

+ Experience reporting and briefing to internal and external stakeholders;

+ Active DOE security clearance\.

Department Description:

Department 6792, USNDS Systems Analysis, provides research and development \(R&D\), systems engineering, system analysis, system test, and project management for the United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System \(USNDS\) to DoD and DOE sponsors\. The department uses systems engineering expertise to support USNDS space and ground systems throughout the lifecycle\. Advanced modeling and simulation capabilities are used to assess USNDS performance as a system\-of\-systems and inform stakeholder decisions\. The department also works closely with flight and ground systems to ensure that USNDS needs are met\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.
