The ISR Electromagnetics \(EM\) and Sensor Technologies Department is seeking an RF/microwave/antenna design engineer to participate in the development of advanced RF systems and antenna designs and concepts in support of a broad range of NW, interagency, synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\), and other programs and R&D initiatives\. Responsibilities will include analysis, design, and development of RF/microwave circuits, subsystems, and modules, design and development of both passive and active antenna structures, negotiating technical and programmatic requirements with customers, and delivering hardware within schedule and budgetary constraints\. Candidates are expected to have experience and understanding in the application of principles, theories, concepts, and practices relating to RF/microwave circuit and antenna design, to perform modeling and simulation in support of design and analysis activities, and to participate in experimental testing of completed designs\. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment\.


+ Bachelor's degree in STEM and an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering \(MSEE or PhD\) with relevant coursework in electromagnetic \(EM\) analysis, RF/microwave circuit design, and antenna design, and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: antenna design, RF/microwave circuit design, RF/microwave system design\.

+ Experience with commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation and antenna design tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, Genesys, IE3D, etc\.

+ Experience with MATLAB, as well as other programming languages \(C/C\+\+, Python, Java, Fortran, etc\.\)

+ Familiarity with and experience in the use of RF/microwave test equipment \(network analysis, spectrum analysis, noise measurements, etc\.\) and in antenna measurement techniques \(radiation pattern characterization on a compact range or near\-field scanner, etc\.\)\.

+ Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance\.


+ PhD in Electrical Engineering\.

+ Experience with design, fabrication, and testing of one or more of the following: printed antennas, conformal antennas, RF communications architectures, RF front ends, low noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, phase locked loops and synthesizers, mixers, filters, other RF components, etc\.

+ Experience with RF circuit layout and RF PCB manufacturing techniques\.

+ Experience in radar system development and radar hardware architectures\.

+ Demonstrated ability to lead individuals and teams in the process of technology development and innovation\.

+ Ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment\.

+ Willingness to make independent contributions to diverse, multi\-disciplinary team efforts\. The selected candidate will be expected to work closely with other RF and antenna engineers both within and outside of the organization to develop solutions for customers\.

+ Ability to effectively prioritize and make decisions\. Excellent communication and documentation skills are required\.

+ Current possession of a DOE Q clearance\.

Department Description:

The ISR Electromagnetics \(EM\) & Sensor Technologies Department \(5345\) operates within the Radar Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance \(Radar ISR\) business area to develop and field high\-performance synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\) systems, and to support various Nuclear Weapon \(NW\), National Security programs \(NSP\), homeland security, and interagency programs and R&D initiatives\. The department specializes in electromagnetic design, simulation, analysis, and testing activities, including antenna/radar design and development, radar\-cross\-section analysis, and RF systems engineering\. Department 5345 also maintains and operates the Facility for Antenna and RCS Measurements \(FARM\) which is located in the Coyote Test Field area of Kirtland Air Force Base \(KAFB\)\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
