The Microsystems Integration Department is seeking a R&D Engineer to conduct research and development on microelectronics packaging solutions for national security. You may have an educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or other STEM field.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead research and development projects, such as the development of packaging solutions for hybrid MEMS/IC systems, electro-optic focal plane arrays, CMOS, novel physics experiments, and additive manufacturing for electronics packaging.
+ Provide technical consultation for production activities including an internal production line and activities at external vendors.
+ Develop the specifications for and commission new equipment.
+ Collaborate with external packaging vendors on behalf of the department.
+ Serve as a resource for process improvement, troubleshooting, and new capability development.


+ Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related STEM field.
+ Undergraduate degree in a STEM field.


+ PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related STEM field.
+ Academic or professional experience in the area of microelectronics packaging (e.g., Advanced Packaging R&D for ICs, MEMS, and Heterogeneous Integration though high-rigor production packaging delivery).
+ Ability to conceive and propose ideas for process improvement, troubleshooting, and new capability development.
+ Experience managing projects, including cost, schedule, and performance.
+ Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate, explain, and educate.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and eagerness to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
+ Active DOE or DOD security clearance.

The Microsystems Integration Department at Sandia National Laboratories is responsible for microelectronics packaging activities ranging from Advanced Packaging R&D for ICs, MEMS, and Heterogeneous Integration though high-rigor production packaging delivery for SNL mission applications. The department is part of the Heterogeneous Integration and RF Microsystems Group within the Microsystems Science and Technology Center at SNL. The department?s projects are a diversified set of activities that include focused development for most of SNL?s Mission Areas and general research and development for future applications.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
