We are seeking Mechanical Engineers within the W87 Mk21 Common/Adaptable Fuze Qualification Department \(Org\. 2342\) to join the qualification team in support of the mechanical qualification activities\. The selected candidate\(s\) will lead the build activities of Arming and Fuzing Assemblies \(AFA\) and execution of the mechanical qualification plans and will be part of a tightly integrated team working to design, develop, qualify, and produce the W87 Mk21 weapon system\. This position will include acquisition of required hardware, specification and documentation of dynamic test and modeling strategies, laboratory and field test activities, test and analysis plan preparation, test execution, and data analysis\. This position will involve technical engagement with experts in structural dynamics, modal analysis and testing, shock and vibration testing within Sandia and with our partner agencies in support of the mechanical qualification test and analysis program\.



These positions have exciting growth opportunities and are an integral part of our overall development and qualification effort for the W87 Mk21 Common/Adaptable Fuze Qualification\. These positions will also include a variety of interactions across the program including coordination with partner organizations across the laboratory and external interaction with the Air Force, NNSA, LLNL, SNLCA, and other agencies\. Some travel may be required to support development, test and program needs\.



Required:



99. Bachelor's AND advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in mechanical engineering or related engineering or physics discipline;

99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance\.



Desired:



99. Two or more years directly related engineering experience;

99. Experience with accelerometers, strain gages, instrumentation and data acquisition;

99. Familiarity with the dynamic effects testing facilities and their equipment;

99. Experience with shock response spectra, power spectral densities and signal processing;

99. Experience in system engineering of complex systems;

99. Experience with NW component or system design, development or production;

99. Ability to work independently and in a team environment showing initiative and leadership;

99. Motivation to work with a large integrated Systems team with broad interaction;

99. Must be able to apply strong interpersonal and communications skills working with a diverse team ranging from skilled laborers to PhD engineers/scientist;

99. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical work;

99. Ability to negotiate competing requirements to give the best system\-level outcome;

99. Ability to discover, understand and articulate constraints, options, paths\-forward;

99. Ability to manage testing interfaces;

99. Strong written and verbal communication skills;

99. Commitment to operational safety, security and quality\.

99. Current and active DOE Q\-level security clearance\.



Department Description:



The Mk21 Arming and Fuzing Assembly \(AFA\) Qualification Department \(2342\) is responsible for leading the qualification and requirements verification effort for the MK21 AFA\. The Mk21 AFA is deployed into Air Force ICBM Weapon Systems\. These fuze technologies share strong synergy with W88 ALT 370\. Department 2342 is comprised of a diverse, multi\-discipline team responsible for building, testing and verifying requirements to ensure successful qualification of the Mk21 AFA\. The Mk21 AFA will require rigorous qualification testing including vibration, shock, thermal, electromagnetic, radiation environments, and flight tests\. The department works collaboratively with the Mk21 AFA PRT department and many laboratory partners both internal and external to Sandia\. This NW development project is engaged in robust development cycle which will progress through an aggressive design engineering test and evaluation phase followed by production engineering qualification leading to an FPU of 4QFY22\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
