We are seeking a R&D Manager to lead Department 2274, a mechanical design definition department, within Design Engineering, 2270\. This department's primary responsibility is to provide the full suite of design definition products and services for system level NW designs primarily at the Sandia California site\. The selected manager will be physically located at Sandia California and work closely with customers in the NW system, subsystem, component, and surveillance organizations to understand their requirements and insure that design requirements are met\. In addition to leading the department, the selected manager will be a vital member of the 2270 leadership team that establishes the strategic direction for Design Engineering and will have a large role in implementing Model\-Based Design concepts into our design processes\. This leadership team also develops the solutions that improve the efficiency of design processes to increase responsiveness to customer design needs\.


99. Bachelors AND Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Math \(STEM\) discipline;

99. Eight or more years relevant technical experience;

99. Knowledge of, and experience with, MCAD modeling & design tools and processes;

99. Knowledge of/experience with NW systems, subsystems and components;

99. Current & active DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


99. Minimum of 5 years demonstrated management, program management, and/or leadership experience;

99. Understanding and/or experience in nuclear weapon \(NW\) product realization processes including familiarity with realize product procedures \(RPPs\);

99. Record of managing and/or leading process improvement efforts;

99. Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects;

99. Previous experience as a PRT \(Product Realization Team\) lead or member;

99. Ability to effectively allocate and manage resources to make product deliveries meeting performance, cost and schedule requirements;

99. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports, and documentation;

99. Exceptional interpersonal skills in developing trust\-based relationships with staff, customers, and peers;

99. Commitment to staff recruitment, development and mentoring\.

Department Description:

Department 2274 provides Mechanical Computer Aided Design \(MCAD\) engineering and design services to support NW and manages California site Plastics Additive Manufacturing capabilities, enabling an agile product prototyping and development\. We specialize in the creation, management, and release of CAD definition to support product realization teams and product definition requirements\. We deliver high quality 3D solid models and drawings, and apply tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability and inspection, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing \(GD&T\) expertise to satisfy design and engineering intent\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.
