We are seeking a R&D, Electronics Engineer to be a part of a highly motivated, cohesive and customer-centric team that provides cradle-to-grave embedded systems engineering design services for sponsors that have a unique and dynamic operational environment. The candidate must be comfortable working on multiple design projects concurrently and able to manage customer priorities independently, but also be able to work effectively as part of a team. The candidate may be responsible for supporting multiple products and serve as the SME for those products over their entire life cycle.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Plan, conceive, conduct, or manage research and development for Sandia's customers and sponsors;
+ Direct systematic study toward a fuller knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and of observable facts, and discovers new approaches to achieve goals;
+ Create new understandings and capabilities by using the scientific method's hypothesis, test, and evaluation techniques; critical review; or similar engineering research and development methods;
+ Initiate, design, develop, execute, and evaluate new processes, products, or systems through basic and applied research;
+ Use engineering principles to research, design, or develop structures, instruments, machines, experiments, processes, systems, theories, or technologies; to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions;
+ Undertake development and possible technology transfer of solutions, products, principles or technology;
+ Undertake creative work, making systematic use of investigation or experimentation, to discover or revise knowledge of reality, and uses this knowledge to devise new applications.
+ This position requires infrequent travel.


+ Bachelor?s and Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline plus 5 years of relevant experience;
+ Experience in embedded software development using C and/or Assembly Language;
+ Experience with standard EE/CE lab equipment, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, and Protocol Analyzers;
+ Active DOE Q-level security clearance;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI clearance.


+ Experience with all phases of embedded system design engineering - requirements definition, electrical and software design, prototype fabrication, testing/validation, production (low volume), delivery, and life cycle maintenance;
+ Experience designing very low power embedded systems;
+ Experience with software/hardware development configuration management tools;
+ Experience with network communication protocol analysis and tools (e.g. Wireshark);
+ Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
+ Experience with Microchip PIC processors;
+ Experience with C# and C++;
+ Experience with FPGA/VHDL/Verilog;
+ Experience with Linux;
+ Ability to reverse engineer and analyze electronic systems and communications protocols;
+ Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a team environment;
+ Current SCI clearance.

The Systems Research Department (5874) performs R&D and analysis of mission-critical mechanical and electronics systems for various government agencies.
