We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a team focused on the development and implementation of unique instrumentation and electrical solutions for a wide variety of tests carried out in challenging environments, including explosive, fireball, underwater, rocket sled track, and cable pull-down tests.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Conduct technical analysis and utilize engineering practices in a laboratory or field setting
+ Respond to quickly-changing needs related to field testing locally and at other United States test sites
+ Travel as required to support projects

Required:



+ Bachelor?s degree in a relevant STEM discipline
+ Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM discipline
+ Experience with high-speed analog/digital hardware
+ Experience with electrical circuit design
+ Experience in analog and digital signal collection and analysis
+ Ability to maintain a DoE Q Clearance

Desired:

+ PhD in Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM discipline
+ In-depth understanding of amplifiers, digitizers with memory, anti-aliasing filters, network/spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, arbitrary waveform generators, etc
+ Experience with software programming, in languages such as Python, LabVIEW, C++, or MATLAB
+ Skill and experience in creating grounding trees and electrical circuit architectures
+ Electrical hardware packaging experience
+ System level reviews for single point failures and safety concerns
+ Experience with high CDU Firing Systems and low power initiating circuits
+ Experience with Electro-Explosive Devices (EED) as well as Exploding Bridge Wire (EBW) devices
+ Proficient with SPICE, PSPICE or other electronics design tool
+ ESD bleed path circuit development and integration
+ Grounding and bonding techniques
+ Data collection experience using pressure transducers, strain gauges, accelerometers, load cells, piezo-resistive and piezo-electric accelerometers etc.
+ Demonstrated ability to plan and execute technical work
+ Willingness to solve problems in a highly collaborative environment
+ Ability to discover, understand, and articulate customer needs



The Measurement Science & Engineering department (1535) is a multi-disciplinary group that participates in large and small-scale transient event lab and field testing for systems of national importance. We are made up of electrical, systems, mechanical, and optical technical staff and technologists. Our work includes measurement R&D, electrical design, systems engineering, optical measurements, data collection and data analysis.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
