We are seeking a motivated and talented R&D Electrical Engineer to fulfill a lead role within the Mk21 Fuze Systems Department to support development activities in the integration of the new Arming and Fuzing Assembly (AFA) into the Mk21 reentry vehicle. The person could be located in either Livermore, CA or Albuquerque, NM.

Everyday tasks/responsibilities could include some or all of the following:

+ Manage electrical systems requirements and electrical requirements interactions with our Air Force customer and subsystem organizations

- Manage and provide technical guidance for system level electrical modeling and simulation efforts, including translation of electromagnetic environments from the system level to the AFA level
- Direct efforts towards ensuring electrical system compatibility with the W87 electrical system and Minuteman III missile system
+ Provide interface support and technical guidance to the Joint Test Assembly 4a (JTA4a) team in their efforts towards updating the JTA4 to accommodate the new AFA
+ Manage the Mk21 Fuze System Tester project, providing technical support and ensuring interface compatibility with testing teams
+ Manage system level ground tests towards acquiring qualification evidence, including simulation of warhead electrical interfaces in system level configuration
+ Manage and lead surveillance planning efforts, including working with the Weapons Evaluation Test Laboratory (WETL)
+ Work with a large team of people across different agencies on an exciting, fast-paced, multi-year, multi-million dollar program
+ Frequent travel between the Livermore, CA and Albuquerue, NM sites


+ Bachelor?s and master?s degrees in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM technical field, with at least two years? relevant experience;
+ Ability to travel;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.


+ Active DOE Q security clearance
+ Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or greater; cumulative graduate GPA of 3.5 or greater
+ Knowledge and experience with scoping, designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects
+ Knowledge and experience in working on products for military applications
+ Knowledge and experience in requirements development and management, including DOORS
+ Excellent project management skills
+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
+ Ability to work efficiently within a team environment
+ Ability to apply knowledge and ideas to solve engineering problems
+ Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly to other team members

The Mk21 Fuze Systems Department is part of the Sandia/California Weapons Systems Engineering Center, responsible for assuring the safety, reliability, and security of U.S. nuclear weapons. The department has the specific responsibility for the systems engineering and integration, qualification, and deployment of a new Arming and Fuzing Assembly (AFA) for the Mk21 Air Force reentry vehicle and will reach production in 2022. This is a large, well established program that is currently in full scale engineering development.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
