We are seeking a R&D, Electrical Engineer in the Energy Storage Technology and Systems Department.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work with various entities, both internal and external, to develop and implement new grid energy storage projects that leverage Sandia?s scientific research capabilities;
+ Handle the development and oversight of the design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and analysis of grid scale energy storage installation projects;
+ Work on the development and implementation of commissioning and testing plans for energy storage systems, collection and analysis of electrical operational data;
+ Development of formal journal papers on the project results; Have the ability to organize and lead both internal and external teams of engineers and technologists to achieve successful results in a timely manner;
+ Develop an energy storage commissioning document and an energy storage system training program.

Position requires approximately 25% of your time or more on travel.

Required:



+ Bachelor?s and Master?s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a relevant STEM discipline;
+ 5+ years? experience in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of facility electrical systems that include electrical power distribution systems, power electronics, electrical control systems and other electrical equipment;
+ Electrical system commissioning experience including battery systems. Experience to include commissioning plan development and implementation;
+ Project management experience, e.g. leading diverse teams in safety, scope, schedule, and budget oversight.

Desired:

+ Professional Engineer certification;
+ MatLab, Labview and other engineering and programming language experience;
+ Publication record in peer reviewed journals;
+ Demonstrated strong written and spoken communication skills;
+ Project and proposal development experience, including experience negotiating project deliverables with external customers;
+ Experience developing or implementing new energy storage technologies;
+ Familiar with various electrical specifications and standards, e.g. NEC 70 & 70E, IEEE 1547, NFPA 1741,UL standards, etc.
+ Familiar with programmable logic controllers, electrical metering, data acquisition systems, and data collection and analysis;
+ Experience writing technical reports.



The Energy Systems Analysis Department provides a capability within Sandia to assess future energy options, modernize the US energy infrastructure, and to help identify the critical research and development needs to ensure the future reliability, sustainability, and security of our customer's energy systems and the nation's energy infrastructure. Our primary sponsors include the DOE, DoD, and other government agencies. We lead Sandia's work in Smart Grid and microgrids, and we work closely with other organizations within Sandia in SCADA security, infrastructure security, energy research, and energy-water nexus issues.

Security Clearance:


This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
