We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the development, specification, and testing of warhead components. The tasks for this position include clarification of requirements, planning and procurement of prototypes, test planning, analysis of test/analysis data for design performance, design definition and documentation, and communication of program status and engineering data to customers and Sandia management. The successful candidate(s) will be part of a tightly integrated team working to design, develop, qualify, and produce the modified warhead as well as deploying it into the Navy fleet. This position offers the opportunity to learn and experience the big picture of system engineering across Sandia and the NNSA enterprise as well as taking part in the primary mission of the Lab.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

99. Support the completion of functional and interface component requirements
99. Update design definition and documentation
99. Support the testing and evaluation of prototype hardware
99. Work with production agency to characterize and fix performance issues
99. Technical leadership in identifying and managing technical risks
99. Analyzing system performance against requirements
99. Assess, plan, and report progress relative to program plans

Required:



99. Bachelor?s and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in relevant STEM discipline; Bachelor?s degree plus four years related experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
99. Five or more years relevant experience.
99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-Level security clearance.

Desired:

99. Knowledge of the NNSA configuration management and engineering authorization (EA) system
99. Demonstrated ability to develop products within the Nuclear Weapon Realize Product Subsystem
99. Experience in system engineering of large and complex systems
99. Demonstrated ability to work within teams that cross technical disciplines.
99. Demonstrated effectiveness working in an environment with dynamic conditions, competing priorities, and firm deadlines
99. Strong verbal and written communication skills
99. Active DOE or DOD security clearance



The W88 ALT370 Arming, Fuzing, and Firing (AF&F) department is responsible for the design and development of the AF&F components to extend the life of the W88-0/Mk5 warhead for the US Navy Strategic Weapons Program. This department derives detailed specification from customer requirements that multiple Sandia organizations use to design the required components. A diverse staff supports this work with technical expertise in electrical and mechanical engineering, broad perspective system engineers, and program planning and management staff. This department works as an integrated team with other Sandia departments to design the many components, qualify them for deployment, and support the production.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
