An electrical component research and design department has an opening for a motivated electrical engineer who is interested in joining high performance technical teams in the research, design, development, qualification, and delivery of highly specialized and novel electronic concepts, components and subsystems for national security.

The successful candidate will participate in the design, analysis and testing of electrical components, as well as the procurement, assembly, and integration of the hardware. To perform these tasks, they must have skills in the areas of electronic design, circuit modeling, models-based design, physical analysis, and bench-top checkout testing. Because devices designed in the department are cross-disciplinary, the electrical engineer will be required to interact with mechanical, optical, quality, manufacturing and system engineers to perform design tasks. It is expected that the engineer will increase their level of responsibility and ownership with experience.

Required:



1) MS or PhD degree in electrical or computer engineering; undergraduate degree must be in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline.

2) Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Desired:

1) Experience in one or more of the following:

- high voltage pulse discharge;

- firing set/fuzing design;

- board-level and/or component level analog circuit design;

- data processing and analysis;

2) Familiarity with the following:

- electrical schematics;

- modeling and analysis tools and methodologies;

- electronics and software testing and debugging;

- digital FPGA design;

- embedded design and programming;

- flight hardware requirements and qualification;

3) Demonstrated ability to work across a wide variety of disciplines to integrate designs into a complete system (software, hardware, mechanical, etc)

4) Ability to work within projects that require adherence to formal engineering design standards, modeling and requirements;

5) Familiarity defining project scope and eliciting system requirements, and interacting with and identifying the needs of various system stakeholders;

6) Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

7) Demonstrated ability to team well with others

9) Active DOE security clearance



The Advanced Fuzing Technology department provides the technical expertise in the research, development, and design of highly specialized firing systems including fuzes and ignition devices. Through our novel designs, we provide advanced fuzing and firing solutions to meet the high reliability, safety and performance requirements for conventional and nuclear weapons applications. Our components and subsystems provide flexible options for integration with complex host systems. Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
