Job Title:R&D Data Scientist (Experienced)


We are seeking a R&D Computer Scientist with a focus in in applied mathematics, computer science, and data sciences. Our R&D staff tackles challenging data-intensive research problems that lead to fundamental advances for Sandia's customers and sponsors in the U.S. Government. Much of the work is conducted in interdisciplinary teams, including interactions with other departments within Sandia as well as external collaborators. Staff members are generally encouraged to publish and present results in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences as well as to develop open-source software.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Conduct research in areas including graph analysis, machine learning, multilinear algebra, numerical optimization, sampling and streaming methods, computational simulation and high-performance computing, with applications to cybersecurity and other data-focused domains of national security interest.


? Ph.D. degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a related engineering or science discipline; or Master's degree in these disciplines plus two years' relevant experience;

? Publication record indicative of relevant research expertise;

? Programming experience in C++, C, Java, MATLAB, R, or a related language;

? Ability to travel;

? Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q and other government agency (OGA) security clearances.


? Ph.D. preferred

? Strong academic performance (i.e. high GPA);

? Demonstrated ability to team in an interdisciplinary R&D environment;

? Record of advancing the state-of-the-art in network and graph analysis, machine learning, applied statistics, applied mathematics, and other related fields of study;

? Demonstrated ability to acquire, prepare, and characterize real-world data for subsequent analysis;

? Demonstrated research community leadership through activities such as participation in student or professional organizations, service on committees, workshop and/or conference organization, and editorial roles.

The Data Science & Cyber Analytics Department develops new techniques and tools in machine learning, data analysis, and numerical and discrete algorithms. The department is especially focused on matrix and tensor methods, adversary-aware analytics, at-scale streaming and sampling methods, graph and network analysis, and game theory. The department generates publications in leading technical journals and conferences as well as software that is freely available to the research community. These techniques are largely focused on real-world data with a particular focus on cyber applications. Our efforts impact a wide range of domains ranging from national security applications to basic and applied research.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
