We are seeking a R&D, Computer Science professional to join our team.

On any given day, you may:

+ Evaluate the software development, testing, and maintenance strategies for high consequence embedded software systems
+ Build tools to verify and validate the compliance of software against customer and derived requirements
+ Execute and optimize your unit, module, and system test software on testbed hardware
+ Develop apps and scripts to mine data and extract insights into the state of software, hardware, and product development
+ Conduct code reviews of high consequence, distributed systems that keep our country safe
+ Apply integrated technical judgment using advanced software and computer engineering principles, analysis paradigms, and defect prevention-based methods to recognize, analyze, and formulate risk profiles stemming from a wide variety of technical challenges, including, but not limited to, software interaction with hardware, sensors, and users
+ Assess the work of research and development and product realization teams: ensure high quality system requirements that enable mission function and performance; system conceptual designs that meet those requirements; and the necessary computational units, interfaces, and data structures utilized to realize those designs


+ Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Embedded Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline; plus 5 years of relevant experience, including two years of leadership experience
+ Experience with high level, low-level, and/or object-oriented languages such as Java, C++, or Python


+ Knowledge of software engineering and software quality engineering principles, lifecycles, and methodologies, such as Waterfall, Agile, or SCRUM
+ Understanding of configuration management
+ Strong collaboration skills, including with scientists and engineers of various disciplines
+ MS or PhD in Embedded Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline; plus 5 years of relevant experience, including three years of leadership experience.
+ Basic knowledge of embedded software development.
+ Basic knowledge of register transfer logic (RTL) systems development.
+ Basic knowledge of FPGA architectures
+ Basic knowledge of various computing architectures
+ Knowledge of data integrity strategies
+ Knowledge of product development processes, including synchronization of software development cycles with hardware development cycles.
+ Knowledge of product support cycles including maintenance.
+ Understanding of software testbeds and processes to demonstrate formal verification of requirements
+ Experience with multiple programming languages and frameworks
+ Experience with databases, including RDBMS and NoSQL frameworks
+ Active DoE Q or L Clearance, Active DoD TS or Secret Clearance

The Product Realization & Engineering Assessment (PREA) department coordinates and conducts independent performance-based assessments of activities associated with the design, development, production, maintenance and dismantlement of Sandia designed weapon and weapon-related product. These assessments provide the basis for the long-term continuous improvement of SNL weapon products and processes.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.
