We are seeking a R&D Computer Scientist

What Your Job Will Be Like

The Geophysical Monitoring System (GMS) project is a large-scale development effort to re-engineer the primary system used by the US National Data Center (US NDC) for the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC). Sandia has already worked with AFTAC to develop requirements, specifications and an architectural design for the new system. We are now seeking outstanding R&D Computer Science professionals who want to be part of the vibrant, high-performing team that is developing the next generation system using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

As a member of our team, you will design, develop, test, and deploy advanced and innovative software for complex, real-time decision support systems. This position may require travel.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Collaborate with your scrum team to design, build, implement and test software systems which solve the most challenging explosion monitoring problems, including large-scale data management, processing, exploitation, visualization and distribution of real-time geophysical data sources; and

Advance the leading edge of computer science applications and computer systems technologies, by designing, building, and deploying essential systems that transform data into decisions at all levels of national security; and

Contribute to deeply rewarding missions through engagement with diverse computer science specialties and domain experts in areas such as data fusion, signal processing, data mining, cloud computing, modeling and simulation, service-oriented architectures, big data management and visualization, pattern recognition, seismology, and geophysics.

Required:



? Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or relevant discipline, plus ten or more years of relevant experience; or a master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or relevant discipline plus five or more years of relevant experience.

? Experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools.

? Experience with object-oriented software development (e.g., Java, C++, C#).

? Experience with large, complex scientific and technical software systems engineering, development and deployment.

Desired:

? Knowledge and experience with implementation of the full software development life cycle using iterative or agile methods.

? Knowledge and experience with agile principles and/or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

? Experience/education in research and development efforts using a subset of the following: distributed system design, data exploitation/mining/fusion algorithms, digital signal processing, numerical analysis, relational/object/geographic database technologies, web-based user interfaces, scientific data visualization, and web services technologies.

? Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

? Demonstrated ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form.

? Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.

? Experience developing software in a Linux environment.



The Dynamic Monitoring Software Department (6363) performs research and development on multi-phenomenological waveform monitoring problems to deliver innovative and practical software applications and solutions. We develop operational monitoring software in support of the US and International nuclear monitoring and non-proliferation mission. Our work ranges from basic research and development to fully deployed operational data processing and analysis systems. We specialize in software architecture and development, geophysics, seismology/infrasound, machine learning, big data analytics, algorithm development and data analysis. We strive to think outside the box in our development efforts to advance the state of the art in support of the monitoring mission.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a SCI security clearance.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.
