Job ID: 658986
Company: Sandia National Laboratories
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Job Title:R&D, Computer Science - C++/Java/Python/Agile/SAFe (Early/Mid-Career)

:

This job requires outstanding computer science and software engineering professionals who have a passion for applying their software development skills to solve some of the most challenging national security problems. We need people that are willing to work as productive members of innovative and high-performing teams to utilize their software development skills to design, build and deploy the next generation of remote sensing systems. Some travel will be required occasionally.

You will work in a highly collaborative and agile team environment to incrementally plan, build and demonstrate working software directly with our mission customers. You will be responsible for managing your commitments, your time and your career growth within the context of a supportive and enabling environment. You will participate in daily scrum meetings where you will report your progress and work to resolve team impediments. As a team player, you are expected to ask for help if you need it and provide help for your fellow teammates when they are stuck. Although there will be ample opportunities to shine as an individual contributor, the team's success will take preeminence over the individual. You will write effective unit-level tests for all of the code that you produce and you will know immediately if your latest changes (or the changes of your teammates) have "broken the build". You will have opportunities to participate in trainings that will improve your skills and your ability to contribute to the project. You may participate in technical investigations or perform tradeoff analysis utilizing either formal methods, prototyping, or industry research to either characterize candidate technologies against a set of architectural drivers, needs and features; or to discover new uses for existing technologies. You may be asked to present your experiences and research to your team, to your project or to your organization.

On a typical day, you may be called on to:

+ Interact with teammates, internal project leadership, and possibly some external stakeholders to determine needs and requirements.
+ Work both as a team and individually to translate these needs into custom software solutions that are peer reviewed, tested, verified, and integrated.
+ Develop solutions to complex problems that require frequent use of creativity and analysis to gain in-depth evaluations across many factors.
+ Participate in SAFe and scrum mandate team sprint and iteration planning, daily stand-up meetings, sprint and iteration demos, and sprint and iteration retrospectives.
+ In addition to developing solutions in the mission space, staff are expected to apply their skills in other mission support areas within the division. Examples include applying Cloud skills to help shape Sandia?s Cloud Strategy or applying software architecture and engineering skills to solve enterprise software challenges.
+ Candidates applying on this requisition may be interviewed and/or hired into one of several organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.

Required:

+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant discipline plus five or more years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or relevant discipline.
+ Experience with object-oriented software development using modern programming languages (C++, Java, or Python).
+ Working knowledge/experience with Unix/Linux operating environments.

Desired:

+ Experience with Micro-Service Architectures
+ Experience with DevOps software delivery
+ Experience with Cloud Computing Services (Open Stack, AWS, Azure)
+ Experience with Container Technologies (e.g. Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes, etc.)
+ Experience of and competence with the full software development life cycle using iterative or agile methods
+ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment; excellent listening and communication skills
+ Critical thinking, synthesis and problem-solving; ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a fast-paced, customer-focused operation; teaming; self-starting
+ Experience in developing large-scale, software intensive, real-time, distributed systems for processing remote sensor data
+ Experience in developing with open-source or COTS-based messaging, integration, data store and application server platforms
+ Experience developing component-based software solutions and frameworks
+ Experience developing scientific and engineering data processing system
+ Experience with MATLAB or other numerical computing environment
+ An active SCI security clearance
