We are seeking a R&D Computer Engineer



An opportunity exists for an experienced embedded software engineer to join the development program for Integrated Surety Architecture \- Safeguards Transporter Compatibility Retrofit \(ISA\-SCR\) and the Mobile Guardian Transporter \(MGT\) projects\. These projects ensure the safety and security of sensitive nuclear materials while in transit\. This position involves high consequence software development on current and next\-generation electronics systems\.



Responsibilities



Develop and test embedded \(C/C\+\+\) software for micro\-processor based electronics systems



Participate in the qualification test planning and execution for these systems



Work within a multi\-disciplinary team to ensure the development, test, and integration of new capabilities into the fleet of Safeguards Transporters \(SGTs\) and next\-generation Mobile Guardian Transporters \(MGT\)



Work in an exciting and fast\-paced environment where you can make a visible impact on the national security posture of the United States\.



Required:



BS and MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or relevant field with evidence of strong academic achievement\.



Demonstrated expertise in embedded software development in C and/or C\+\+ on microprocessor based electronic systems\.



A team player capable of handling multiple assignments, with strong customer focus and excellent oral and written communication skills\.



Active DOE Q\-level or DOD Top Secret security clearance\.



Occasional travel is necessary\.



Desired:



Familiarity with Printed Circuit Board \(PCB\) design and test\.



Experience in embedded firmware \(HDL\) development on Xilinx FPGA\-based electronic systems\.



Experience with digital, RF, and/or satellite communications systems\.



Ability and interest to learn new technologies\.



Department Description:



The Communications and Electrical Systems Technology Department is responsible for the development and integration of command, control, and communication technologies used in specialized transportation security systems\. The department conducts research and development activities in the areas of high consequence software systems, custom embedded circuit design, wireless network communications, intelligent power conditioning and distribution, navigation systems, and sensors\. Major programs supported by the department include the Safeguards Transporter \(SGT\), development of a new high security system called the Mobile Guardian Transporter \(MGT\) and an advanced concept surety programs called Integrated Surety Architectures \(ISA\)\. Robust security protection for transportation systems face many unique challenges, and requires exhaustive investigation and analysis of sophisticated system attacks and the associated development of countermeasures to defend and protect against such attacks\. The use of modeling and simulation tools assists in the investigation, exploration, and development of new design approaches, algorithms, and design of experiments to validate system capabilities\.
