We are seeking a R&D Chemical Engineer



Lead the Planning, Conduct, and Reporting of Field and/or Laboratory Experiments involving high explosives and combustion materials



Leveraging existing Site 9920 explosive test facilities and capabilities, help our customers with their challenging problems involving explosive applications and/or explosive effects\.



Perform fast running and/or hi fidelity air blast and/or blast effects predictions using SDOF, FE and/or CFD methods to inform field test setup and execution\.



Develop, coordinate, and oversee hands\-on \(i\.e\. activity level work\) tasks with a broad range of support personnel that includes technologists, engineers, and support contractors\.



Assure hands\-on, activity work tasks are planned and executed in compliance with Corporate Engineered Safety principles and practices, and Work Planning and Control Processes\.



The successful candidate must be willing to work at a remote explosive test site, often times outdoors in an uncontrolled and hot or cold environment



Required:



Bachelors and Masters Degree in relevant STEM discipline \(Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Physics\) plus five or more years experience\.



The requirement for a STEM Masters degree can be waived for candidates with a bachelors in a relevant STEM discipline and engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent R&D\. A minimum of 10 years demonstrated experience in a R&D position\.



Desired:



+ PhD in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Physics\.

+ Active Q clearence or DOE clearence



Department Description:



The Explosives Research & Development Department \(6648\) plans and conducts explosive field tests and training events at Explosive Test Site 9920, and occasionally at other off\-site locations\. Field tests involve the detonation of military or commercial grade high explosives and initiating components using electric and non\-electronic firing sets\. Training activities involve containment and explosive disablement for a wide range of US and international customers\. We support internal and external organizations involved in Nuclear Security \(Domestic and International\), Nuclear Weapons, Nuclear Non\-Proliferation, and Domestic/International Counterterrorism\. Explosive Test Site 9920 consists of 6 outdoor test pads/arenas and 2 specialized explosive test facilities\. Our work routinely involves the fielding of a wide range of active data collection techniques like time of arrival, pressure, Photo Doppler Velocimetry \(PDV\), high speed video imaging, and flash x\-ray\. Site activities include preparing, building, staging, and cleanup of explosive test events\.

Security Clearance:



Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
