We are seeking a well\-qualified, experienced Quality/Trust Assurance Engineer to fulfill a role in an R&D Systems Engineering organization\. Quality/Trust Assurance Engineers play an integral role in all phases of a products lifecycle\. Quality/Trust Assurance Engineers will employ defect\-prevention methodologies and integrate Trust principles into development, qualification, manufacturing, and test & integration activities\. Successful candidates will be assigned to one of the Surety Engineering departments based on education, skills, experience, and aptitude\. Selected candidates will provide quality engineering and trust assurance support to R&D teams responsible for realizing high\-consequence, low\-volume products and software, as part of a strong national security program\. Projects span across all phases of the product lifecycle from design and development to production and surveillance\.



On any given day, you may be called on to:



+ Apply integrated technical judgment using advanced quality engineering principles, analysis, and defect prevention methods to formulate innovative solutions to a wide variety of technical challenges, including, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, software, and material science\.

+ Work with the project manager and the customer to negotiate and define system requirements that enable mission function and performance; develop system conceptual designs to meet those requirements; and define the necessary subsystems, components, and interfaces to realize the system\.

+ Author written analyses, requirements traceability reports, verification/ validation plans, qualification plans, and other essential engineering authorizations that ensure on\-time, on\-budget, and consistent product delivery

+ Use scientific methods to identify issues and risks and formulate well\-constructed engineering solutions, collect data through observation and experimentation, and develop and test hypotheses\-\-to anticipate, innovate, and deliver solutions to Sandia National Laboratories missions\.

+ Responsible for incorporating TRUST assurance principles during all stages of a products lifecycle, as well as document a Trust assurance case, based on a specific Program Protection Plan\.

+ The R&D Quality & Trust Engineer will provide guidance to management and the programs System Trust Engineer\.

+ Provide an independent assessment of defense systems, and associated key subsystems in terms of security and denial of authorized use attributes\.



Required:



+ Bachelor of Science in a Science, Engineering or Math discipline plus five years of experience; or Master of Science in a relevant discipline plus three or more years of experience; or doctorate in relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience \(relevant disciplines in science, engineering, and math\)\.

+ Experience with Product Realization Lifecycle\.



Desired:



+ Experience with R&D Quality and Trust Engineering principles, tools, methodologies, and best practices\.

+ Experience with Product, Software, and Test Equipment design and qualification\.

+ Experience with supplier qualification, improving quality performance, implementing process controls and quality plans

+ Experience with reducing risk in a high\-consequence environment\.

+ Experience with improving process capability and production deficiencies while maintaining and improving quality standards\.

+ Experience with developing manufacturing processes through a thorough understanding of product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment\.

+ Experience with defining and reviewing specifications for gauging, fixtures, and tools needed for inspection and product acceptance\.

+ Experience delivering complex engineering products

+ Design assurance acumen, including Requirements/Configuration Management\.

+ Technical analysis acumen, including SPC, FMEA, RCA, HALT/HASS, Mistake Proofing, Design of Experiments and Fagan Inspections\.

+ Experience with Project Management \(leadership experience\)\.

+ Ability to solve complex problems in the absence of clear direction \(experience in ambiguous environments\)

+ Ability to facilitate uncompromising, high\-quality standards while establishing and maintaining effective and productive relationships with internal and external customers at all experience and authority levels\.

This posting is for job openings in the Surety Engineering group responsible for providing R&D quality engineering and software assurance expertise across the laboratories\. Quality/Trust Assurance Engineers work with various R&D teams to help overcome the nations most complex challenges associated with both nuclear and conventional weapon systems, in addition to providing quality support to many other technical programs\. The Surety Engineering Group promotes confidence against loss, damage, and faults, and upholds design assurance principles by applying preventative engineering techniques and tools to detect defects and identify their sources early in order to maximize cost and schedule savings during the product realization process\.
