Pratt & Whitney is seeking experienced candidates for propulsion systems analysis with experience in one or more of the following functions:

  • Development engine performance and modeling
  • Analysis of transient engine handling characteristics
  • Engine systems stability analysis for operability
  • Dynamic systems modeling and control integration
  • Numerical methods for cycle simulation and multi-discipline optimization
  • Aircraft performance analysis
  • System functional requirements definition
  • Engine functional testing and validation
  • System level project engineering

Critical skills involve application of steady state and transient thermodynamic principles to a wide range of performance development topics such as product validation, electronic control definition and optimization, cycle studies, root cause, and performance improvement packages for thrust, fuel burn, and functional enhancements to the engine. Strong technical leaders in this area have an understanding of aerodynamics of turbo machinery, combustion, inlets and nozzles to integrate results from component data and sophisticated aerodynamic 2D and 3D simulation into leadership direction for cycle improvements and directions for technology advancement.

This position is highly inter-disciplinary and team-oriented requiring excellent communication skills. Travel opportunities may arise depending on project assignments and requirements. Candidates with more extensive team leadership experience will be considered for expanded roles in the propulsion systems analysis organization; those with experience in a portion of the above responsibilities will be evaluated for development and growth opportunities while fulfilling a technical leadership role with support.


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 3-5 years of successful experience in a technical assignment within an Engineering organization
  • MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2-3 years of successful experience in a technical assignment within an Engineering organization
  • PhD degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with experience in research and/or teaching in a propulsion-related area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Competent in one or more of the following engineering disciplines:
    • thermodynamics and engine performance, gas dynamics, aircraft performance, statistics, functional integration, aerospace systems testing, and software design
  • Practical experience with systems analysis tools (e.g. NPSS and C++ related programming language) is desired
  • Strong communication, analytical, teaming skills, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment is required
  • Professional experience in both engine and aircraft performance is preferred
Education
