The Project Engineer will provide technical support for design, fabrication, and testing of elastomeric and/or composite structures for underwater naval applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform activities in a wide variety of cross-functional areas including process development, materials development, and design engineering.

  • Responsible to support the transition of new products into production level manufacturing involving elastomers, bonded structures, and/or composite materials.

  • Interface with shop floor personnel for the purpose of communicating technical and quality information and requirements.

  • Write and revise process documentation that is understandable for those with a limited technical background.

  • Perform product quality dispositions and root cause analysis.

  • Support the design, fabrication, and/or acquisition of manufacturing fixtures and tooling.

  • Generate and/or review technical drawings and CAD for accuracy and compliance with product design intent.

  • Contribute to the design and development of novel materials and their applications.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of elastomeric/viscoelastic materials and processing.

  • Knowledge of composite materials and processing.

  • Experience with fixture and tooling design.

  • Experience with materials testing / applied mechanics.

  • Basic knowledge of vibration and acoustics.

  • Working level knowledge of SolidWorks.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings including GD&T.

  • Skilled with hand tools & power tools.

  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.

  • Working level knowledge of SAP.

  • 2+ years in engineering preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of an integrated product team.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Strong written and verbal skills including thorough knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Intrinsic desire to work with emerging material systems and new product fabrication.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and look for unknown problems before they arise.

  • 100% dedicated to following all safety procedures and precautions.

  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Must have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance within 6 months of hire.

  • Domestic travel up to 10%.

Education: BS Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or similar technical discipline.
