This position requires considerable experience in numerical analysis as well as leading technical teams of researchers. The successful candidate is expected to interact with United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) Program Offices and United Technologies Corporation (UTC) business units to enhance existing programs, assist in setting strategic direction, and provide leadership to efforts involving high performance computing, especial as it relates to efficient numerical methods for parallel/cloud computation, optimization, uncertainty quantification, graph theory, and mathematics on graphs, with strong emphasis on analysis and algorithm development.Of particular interest are demonstrated skills in these areas for industrial problems. Additionally, this individual will be called upon to outline future business opportunities and to provide technological and business solutions in response to UTC business unit requirements and create opportunities including the acquisition of contract awards,

The candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, multinational team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading worldwide institutions (universities, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills, capable of interacting with UTRC senior management while also being able to mentor junior members of the technical staff. Additionally, the candidate must be able to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations.

Furthermore, the successful candidate will be expected to:
-Provide technical leadership and direction and serve as a technical resource to others, including being a member of technical review boards.
-Act as principal investigator, leading multidisciplinary teams focused on creative, integrated solutions for business and technical challenges in computational mathematics, numerical analysis, optimization, and uncertainty quantification.
-Identify and champion promising technical innovations for UTC Business Units through the establishment of university, national labs and other external partnerships with world-class institutions.
-Source and evaluate new technology for UTC; create and leverage internal and external partnerships; create opportunities through the acquisition of contract awards.
-Foster development of creativity and technical excellence in others.
-Author technical papers; be active in internal and external networks.

Qualification: -Expert knowledge and a minimum of 8 years of industrial or academic experience (post degree) in at least one of the following: (1) efficient numerical algorithms for large scale, multi-physics, multi-time scale systems of DAEs, ODEs, and PDEs. Particularly sought are candidates with experience using GPUs in the computational environment; or (2) Expertise in spectral and algebraic graph theory and demonstrated skills in asynchronous computations for large dynamic networks, advanced optimization methods (continuous and discrete) and uncertainty quantification.
-Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to successfully achieve desired technical outcomes within time and budget constraints.

-Demonstrated ability to write proposals and win external funding/contracts/grants.
-Record of technical contributions, including patents and publications in refereed technical journals.
-Proven success in innovative strategic and technical thinking, willingness to champion and challenge new technical ideas, and experience in ing work to real-world applications.
-Excellent communication and leadership skills; innovative strategic and technical thinker; high energy; team player.
-Demonstrated team leadership in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural industrial applications is a plus.

US Citizen or US Permanent Resident is required for this position.

Education: Required: M.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, plus at least 10 years of industrial or academic experience after completion of the M.S. in disciplines as outlined above.

Preferred: Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, plus at least 8 years of industrial or academic experience after completion of the Ph.D. in disciplines as outlined above.
