Project Overview:

 

Excet, Inc. is seeking to immediately hire a Power & Battery Systems Engineer who will work as a member of the technical team which develops and demonstrates prototype propulsion systems for undersea vehicles. This position, based at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, involves working with hardware and software in a laboratory, engineering design, and conducting analysis.  The near-term focus is on battery electric drivetrains and the related mechanical, thermal, and controls systems to run them.  The technical aspects of the position involve physical design and prototyping and controls development using Simulink.  Candidates must be able to work with cross-functional groups involving government and industry partners to develop, test, and refine prototype systems.  The position is full- time based out of NRL.

 

 Initial Project Tasks and Objectives:

 

  • Writing MATLAB/Simulink code to communicate with, control, and acquire data from an automotive battery packs.
  • Building up the electrical and mechanical infrastructure to charge and discharge automotive battery packs (cabling, cooling, adding sensors and data acquisition, etc.).
  •  Documenting the software and hardware developed in this project.

Requirements

Desired Skills and Qualifications:       

 

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science and 4-7 years direct experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated engineering curiosity and organization
  • Proficient in MATLAB and Simulink
  • SolidWorks ability preferred
  • Familiar with CAN and/or other automotive communications protocols
  • Experience working with and controlling batteries, battery packs, and electric drivetrains (electric vehicles)
  • Experience in the automotive industry
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance

 

Type of Position: Full-Time

 

Travel: Very limited.  Most of the project will be based at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC.
