The Electrical Sciences and Experiments department is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with a background in experimental electromagnetics to support electromagnetic qualification of components and systems as well as the development and testing of advanced electromagnetic pulse experimental and analysis techniques for better understanding the resiliency of the electrical grid\.

Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

+ Creation and development of advanced technologies and electromagnetic testing techniques

+ A strong understanding of fundamental electromagnetic topics such as electromagnetic coupling, wave propagation, microwave instrumentation and measurement principles, and electromagnetic compatibility is required


+ PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or related discipline\.

+ A demonstrated history and interest in experimental electromagnetics\.

+ The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance\.


+ Five years or more of experience in experimental electromagnetics research

+ Experience using reverberation chambers, TEM cells, and anechoic chambers

+ Familiarity with vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, amplifiers, antennas, and other traditional microwave equipment \(waveguides, couplers, dividers, filters, etc\.\)

+ Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including the development and delivery of presentations, proposals and reports

+ Experience with power electronic hardware and systems

+ Experience with ultrawide band gap devices

+ Experience with motor and motor drives

+ Experience in electrical breakdown research

+ Experience in using high voltage pulsers

+ Willingness to work around high voltage

+ Expertise with LabView and Matlab

Department Description:

Department 1353 is a multidisciplinary research and development group supporting NNSA Defense and Work for Other \(WFO\) Programs\. Our capabilities include experimental electromagnetics, the design and manufacturing of advanced power electronics, compact high current drivers, electron beam accelerators, x\-ray sources, development and analysis of advanced materials and components, and plasma physics\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
