Job Title:Postdoctoral Appointee - Applied Mathematics/Computer Science/Data Science

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with a focus in applied mathematics, computer science, and data sciences. Our R&D staff tackles challenging data-intensive research problems that lead to fundamental advances for Sandia's customers and sponsors in the U.S. Government. Much of the work is conducted in interdisciplinary teams, including interactions with other departments within Sandia as well as external collaborators. PostDocs are encouraged to publish and present results in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences as well as to develop open-source software.

Research focus areas include graph analysis, machine learning, multilinear algebra, numerical optimization, sampling and streaming methods, computational simulation and high-performance computing, with applications to cybersecurity and other data-focused domains of national security interest.

Required:



? Ph.D. degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a related engineering or science discipline;

? Publication record indicative of relevant research expertise;

? Programming experience in C++, C, Java, MATLAB, R, or a related language.

Desired:

? Strong academic performance (i.e. high GPA);

? Demonstrated ability to team in an interdisciplinary R&D environment;

? Record of advancing the state-of-the-art in network and graph analysis, machine learning, applied statistics, applied mathematics, and other related fields of study;

? Demonstrated ability to acquire, prepare, and characterize real-world data for subsequent analysis;

? Demonstrated research community leadership through activities such as participation in student or professional organizations, service on committees, workshop and/or conference organization, and editorial roles.



The Data Science & Cyber Analytics Department develops new techniques and tools in machine learning, data analysis, and numerical and discrete algorithms. The department is especially focused on matrix and tensor methods, adversary-aware analytics, at-scale streaming and sampling methods, graph and network analysis, and game theory. The department generates publications in leading technical journals and conferences as well as software that is freely available to the research community. These techniques are largely focused on real-world data with a particular focus on cyber applications. Our efforts impact a wide range of domains ranging from national security applications to basic and applied research.

Security Clearance:


No clearance required.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to the work site. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment.

If hired without a clearance, and one subsequently becomes required or you bid on positions that require a DOE-granted security clearance, a pre-processing background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation. This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
