The Polymer Engineer position has a broad range of activities and responsibilities that are important to the effective operation of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) CoE, including:

  • Additive polymer processes of thermoplastics, elastomers, photopolymers, and binders
  • Characterizing morphology, defects and properties of AM polymer materials
  • Establishing material specifications and quality requirements for additively manufactured materials and precursor materials
  • Establish procedures for safe and efficient material handling
  • Establish post processing techniques, including surface finishing for additively manufactured components
  • Develop material testing and characterization techniques required to support component production,

The successful candidate should have proven expertise in polymer chemistry. Experience with material characterization techniques to evaluate morphology, defects, and engineering properties is required. The candidate should have experience in the processing of polymer materials via additive manufacturing. The candidate should also be familiar with the pre and post material processing techniques required to produce additive parts. Knowledge of manufacturing operations and additive manufacturing is preferred, with demonstrated proficiency in writing work instructions and standard work. She/he must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills.

US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status required.

~10% travel may be required.

Education: Candidates for this position require a MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field with more than 3 years of experience or a PhD in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering. The preferred candidate with have related experience including evaluating and characterizing the properties and performance of Additive Manufactured components in an applied research environment or product/component design. Specific experience in additive manufacturing is required.
