The Microsystem Design & MESA Production group is looking to find three \(3\) R&D managers to join our team\.

+ Org\. 5254, NW ASIC Product Realization

+ Org\. 5255, Validation & Failure Analysis

+ Org\. 5256, Defect Prevention Engineering

The successful candidates will be self\-directed and customer focused have strong interpersonal, teaming, leadership, and analytical skills\. The managers will lead high performing teams in the design, development, test, qualification, and delivery of MESAs products which are designed to meet demanding performance and reliability specifications and stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments\. The managers will partner across the center and the laboratory and with external customers and regulatory agenciesenable high\-quality execution of MESAs realization and production programs\.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

+ Leading the team in delivering with excellence and energizing the staff to achieve this vision

+ Ensuring customer satisfaction by delivering on commitments and managing expectations

+ Ensuring that the team is robust, agile, and well\-suited for all the department's technical challenges

+ Adaptably managing department resources to align with Center \(Division and Laboratory\) priorities

+ Building effective trust based partnerships across Sandia, with sponsors \(internal and external\), and with industry partners

+ Evaluating and leading R&D projects to develop new opportunities to support current and future missions and customer needs

+ Production planning and execution, including developing computer\-based process controls for process improvement and eliminating errors

+ Leading and implementation the quality management systems for realization of MESAs microelectronic products

+ Creating, tracking and reporting on the budgets, schedules, risks and variances of the programs to both internal and external customers

+ Ensuring ES&H compliance; between the departments the managers own 17 labs

+ Contributing to all aspects of Microelectronics/Microsystems at Sandia


+ Bachelors and Master's Degree in a relevant STEM field plus 8 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree in STEM plus 12 years of relevant experience\.

+ Two years experience managing projects and leading teams\.

+ Experience with the successful development, qualification, and delivery of high reliability products\.


+ Personnel/line management experience\.

+ Advanced STEM degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Physics/Materials Science\.

+ Demonstrated interpersonal skills in developing trust based relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers\.

+ Experience realizing NW systems, component, or subsystems, including familiarity with realize product procedures \(RPPs\), NW Quality standards, and/or delivery of Mark Quality products\.

+ Understanding of microelectronics design, semiconductor processes and radiation effects on semiconductors\.

+ Experience successfully managing multi\-million dollar projects, preferably using Earned Value Management Systems \(EVMS\)\.

+ Program development experience, including securing new business partnerships\.

+ Experience designing and implementing defect prevention and/or quality management processes for product realization processes\.

+ Detailed knowledge of NAP\-24, Sandias realize product procedures \(RPPs\), Sandias corporate process requirements and ISO\-9001\.

+ Certification as a Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor, Master Black Belt, and/or Black Belt\.

+ An active DOE Q\-Level security clearance\.

+ An active SCI clearance\.

Department Description:

Sandia National Laboratories Microsystems, Engineering and Science Applications \(MESA\) complex provides a unique capability in providing microsystems for a variety of high consequence applications\. The center is one of only a few at Sandia that has both realization and production missions, including for the B61\-12 LEP, W88\-ALT, W87/Mk21 Fuze and W80\-4 programs\. The departments engage in the full NW ASIC product realization process beginning with customer engagement and requirements definition through to Mark Quality \(diamond stamped\) product delivery\.

The Defect Prevention Engineering department \(5256\) is responsible for ensuring that all of MESAs mark quality and high reliability microsystems are designed, manufactured and validated to meet all customer requirements in alignment with high rigor quality practices appropriate for high consequence applications\. The department partners across the center, the laboratory and with external organizations to deliver microsystems that meet mission goals and are compliant with NAP\-24 and ISO quality Systems\.

The Validation and Failure Analysis department \(5255\) is responsible for test, yield improvement, failure analysis, and product reliability for MESAs microelectronics, MEMS, and optoelectronics products for the Nuclear Deterrent \(ND/NW\) and Defense Systems & Assessments \(DS&A\) customers\. These responsibilities by developing and employing state\-of\-the\-art capabilities and techniques in functionality and reliability tests, failure analysis and counterfeit detection, and reliability engineering\.

The Nuclear Weapon \(NW\) Product Realization department \(5254\) is responsible for the design and delivery of digital, analog, and mixed signal application specific integrated circuits \(ASICs\) to the nuclear deterrence community\. The department partners across the center and the laboratory with NW Systems, NW Major Components \(MCs\) and Sandia External Production \(SEP\) to design and deliver ASICs that meet mission goals\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
