We are seeking a Nuclear Reactor Engineer and Operator to support the Annular Core Research Reactor and the Critical Experiments Reactor. Upon completing the requisite qualifications to become certified as a reactor operator, you will support a wide multitude of experiments being conducted by Sandia scientists, as well as external customers.On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform as a Reactor Operator, including experiment preparation/handling and crane operations.
+ Operating, maintaining and repairing reactor systems, and associated programmatic support equipment.
+ Supporting experiment plan development and execution at nuclear facilities, radiological facilities, and reactors
+ Working with engineers to develop, design, and install new systems components
+ Developing procedures in support of facility activities and supporting facility assessment
+ Ensuring that facility operations are conducted within the framework of a strong nuclear safety culture and implements effective operational decision making
+ Supporting the development and maintenance of the facility safety basis
+ Performing causal analysis and developing corrective actions for identified deficiencies
+ Taking a leadership role in start-up and training related to new or significantly modified nuclear and radiological facilities
+ Preparing and presenting technical reports and presentations for professional organizations and user groups


+ Bachelor?s degree in a technical field
+ Experience at a nuclear reactor facility in nuclear operations/maintenance
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance


+ Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear, electrical, computer or mechanical engineering
+ Current or previous qualifications as a Reactor Operator
+ Familiarity with DOE nuclear facility requirements
+ Ability to complete complex assignments with minimal management oversight
+ Experience working with instrumentation and control systems
+ Experience working with MCNP modeling
+ Experience working in a team environment
+ Demonstrated leadership skills
+ Demonstrated initiative and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
+ Excellent verbal and written communications skills
+ Current DOE security clearance

Nuclear Facilities Operations, Department, (1381), provides operational management of nuclear reactor facilities within TA-V. These facilities include the Annular Core Research Reactor Facility and the Sandia Pulsed Reactor Facility which contains a Critical Experiments Reactor.

These nuclear facilities are used in the conduct of experiments for a wide variety of programmatic customers. Detailed facility descriptions are captured in the documented safety analysis for each nuclear facility.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
