Job Title:Multiphysics Code Development Computer Scientist (Experienced)

We are seeking a Computational Scientist with a focus in scientific C++ software and algorithm development to join our mature multiphysics code development team. Our team has a strong culture of collaboration and prides itself in the development of high-quality code, which involves extensive testing, verification, validation, and peer review.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work closely with other staff members in research and development of multiphysics methods and analysis codes
+ Perform fundamental multiphysics software development and code architecture design
+ Work on serial, MPI parallel, and manycore/multicore/GPU performance aspects of multiphysics codes
+ Develop and enhance advanced Arbitrary-Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) and Adaptive Lagrangian (AL) simulation technologies for large deformation, shock physics applications.
+ Develop simulation capabilities on emerging architectures such as INTEL Phi, and NVIDIA CUDA platforms using generic APIs such as the Trilinos Kokkos package

Required:



+ PhD in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related area
+ Experience in large scale computational code development in C++ and strong software development skills
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance

Desired:

+ Experience with Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) Finite Element codes
+ Experience with solution adaptivity and error estimators/indicators.
+ Experience with Variational Multiscale Methods for solution of large deformation mechanics and/or shock-physics simulation.
+ Experience utilizing parallel scientific libraries, such as Trilinos
+ Evidence of relevant and exceptional research achievements as demonstrated in the form of technical publications, presentations, software tools, and/or knowledge of applications
+ Ability to work in a collaborative research environment on problems in a variety of domains
+ Proficiency in solving problems, prioritizing work, and making decisions
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills
+ Expertise in parallel computation demonstrated by participation in parallel code development activities



Sandia's Computational Multiphysics Department 01443 develops unique, state-of-the-art multiphysics modeling and simulation capabilities. We are home to the ALEGRA application, targeted at the simulation of high strain rate, magnetohydrodynamic, electromechanic and high energy density physics phenomena for the U.S. defense and energy programs. The department conducts an active program of research and development in computational multiphysics methods, produces high-performance application codes that address relevant issues important to the DOE, DoD, DHS, and other U.S. Government agencies, and supports production use of our codes by our principal customers. Members of the department also maintain a research presence in the external professional community by collaborating with universities and industry, publishing peer-reviewed literature, participating in professional societies, and refereeing and editing for journals.

Security Clearance:


Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
